Overrated/Underrated Sitcoms and the science of comedy

Vicar of Dibley is quite good. I’d not watched it until introduced by my wife who loves it.

Brilliant. I think the actor as the blonde sidekick died not so long ago

It was written by a former Minister who would have had spent a lot of time with a lot of Sir Humphries. I liked Bernard the best.

Last Man on Earth was bloody good imo. Spewing they never got to finish the story.

Will Forte is a comedy god.

They also had secret access to a few private secretaries who were leaking various shenanigans that were occuring in Whitehall / government and some made it - in various forms - into the shows. Apparently the middle east trip where they surreptitiously smuggled alcohol to a meeting and gave each other code names like Johhny Walker and General Haig was based on a true account.

Edit - not sure the writers were ever ministers, I think they were speech writers which is probably how they got early access.

Spot on.

It was one of my Mum’s favourite shows, but I got a bit of a chuckle from Keeping Up Appearances.

It’s not a sitcom, it’s a documentary

Anthony Jay , who wrote the book, was a Senior Minister. The screen writers would have drawn on his experiences to adapt it .

She did, only 52 or 53, dreadful business.

Incidentally, only two of the main cast from the show are still with us; Dawn French and James Fleet.

The Australian show with Sigrid Thornton?

From memory, that was more a drama than a sitcom.

Brooklyn Nine Nine is overrated.

Mr. Bean? (Live action)
The Nanny (a little underrated)

One more I can’t think of. I’ll be back.

Yes I was hesitant whether it fitted, but there were some hilarious scenes.
