Postage from the US is ridiculous
I use eBay there is no way I’m buying a $20-$30 item and then have to pay up $50 or more for postage
Use Amazon.
Assuming you have an Account ($7pcm), shipping is then FREE for an order over $49 on Global items.
They don’t even need to be from the same country.
For example, I once purchased a $40 item from the US, and a $20 item from the UK.
Shipping is free of charge as I put them through on the same order.

Worth it even to just sign up for the single item, then cancel at the end of the month.
You do get Prime Video for that $7pcm.
Its not as good as Netflix, but has some good stuff on there.
Also Expedited Shipping on Aust orders.

I did just that ordered a few things, so signed up for a month. One local order arrived in 5days, something from the US estimated to take 2.5 weeks (we’ll see).
So far l’ve watched “Hanna s3”, “The Dry”, “Fever pitch:rise of the premier league.” “The curse of Von Dutch” and tonight we’ll watch the latest fast and furious. So figured l’ve got my $7 value already.

It really is massive value for money.
The don’t have many new releases / additions on Prime but it is a good back up when free to air / Netflix isn’t getting it done.
The free postage is awesome.

So if i sub up to Amazon Prime will I get free postage if I buy an item that’s over $49 from the US? US postage is expensive as fck
Correct.
Or it can be multiple items within the same order, so long as you meet the $49 threshold.
AND, it could even be items coming from 2 different counties (ie. the US & UK), again so long as you hit $49 within the same order.

Provided it’s eligible for prime. Plenty of US and UK products with a postage fee as well. However you can filter your searches to include ‘eligible for prime free shipping’.

most ■■■■ is though. im just filthy i can’t buy from amazon japan anymore, so ■■■■■■■ hard to get sony audio stuff because they only leave the good ■■■■ in SE asia/japan

This is true, though I don’t see it very often.
Sometimes, that nominal postage fee is worth it for hard to find, more obscure items.
What kind of audio stuff ?
I like their IEMs and had a pair of MDR 7550s about 5 years ago that broke (pets chewed them) wanted to get more but amazon went their BS ‘YoU CaN’t BuY fRoM tHiS sItE cHaNgE tO AuStRaLiA’.
Why is US postage so expensive? I remember few years back getting items from the US was not that expensive our dollar was a lot closer to USD
because you’re not paying tax on it?

Its not that bad for reasonable size and weight parcels if choosing the US Postal system (then taken by Aust. Post once in Oz).
I have ordered headphones from Drop and postage is US$15.
Just about to order a couple of pairs of gym gloves and it’s $15 US again by slow mail.
If I choose expedited shipping via DHL, it jumps to US$35.

Yet another thing you can thank Scummo and the Tories for. They would much rather protect Harvey Norman’s profits than let you get something tax free from the US, even if you can’t get it here.
