Of course he does. I’m not saying it’s a bad policy, I’m saying it’s a policy that’s easier to adopt when players are falling over themselves to come to your club. As you mentioned, it’s not exactly as if we could have said “fine, leave then, we’ll just bring in some high quality players from other clubs on less money” over the last few years.

If hawthorn maintain their policy after a few years out of the eight and it doesn’t result in losing players they can’t replace, then more power to them.

ist was won on the back of drafting and some of those ins haven’t won them a premiership yet. So sustained finals campaigns is not really success imo, it is only part of it. Success is winning a GF and they haven’t won one since 2011 with all their trading.
Hawthorn yes (although their core was drafted, the cream was traded and that was smart), Sydney to a degree but Geelong doesn’t fit.

Geelong dont win the first premiership without ottens.

But hell maybe mumford comes on and they win a different one who knows.

Mumford was a key to Cats early move up the ladder under Bomber.

But looking back now, how could he not have success with kelly, Bartel, Ablett, Chappy, Scarlett
they had a really good top tier and there depth wasnt bad then too - ie prismall.
