Edmund Rice Education Australia is what they are officially called.
Yeh, St Kevin’s officially broke away last year and hopefully will allow progressive change. I expect it will become a coed school in the not too distant future.
Strange sort of Skevs breakaway from the Trustees of Edmund Rice Education Australia (TEREA) though, according to the FAQ:
11 What will be the ongoing relationship between the College and TEREA?
The College will be incorporated as a company limited by guarantee, being the most common legal structure for an incorporated school. This means the College requires a member, and TEREA will be the sole member of the College. As the College will continue to be a not-for-profit entity, TEREA will not be entitled to any profits from the College.
Given the implementation of a localised College Board, it is intended that TEREA’s role with respect to the governance of the College will be very limited.
While the College Board will have governance responsibilities for the College, it is appropriate for the College Board (both current and future) to be subject to some level of oversight with respect to fundamental decisions affecting our College. As such, the Constitution for the newly incorporated entity requires that a limited number of fundamental decisions require the ratification of TEREA as the sole member before those decisions can be taken by the College Board. Those fundamental decisions include among other things the appointment of the Principal, certain transactions relating to land and decisions to cease operating the College
Just checking.
Anglican school this time.
And yet he’s still feted by the Catholic Church as some sort of martyr.
Defenders of Pell scatter to the foul winds
Dutton has defended a lot of very bad people.
Waits for Alan Jones to resume his impassioned defense of Pell.
I guess that’s not going to happen this time.
Anyone defending child sex offences…… generally have something to hide.
Tony Abbott secured his Rhodes Scholarship with the backing of the Catholic hierarchy.
All of the billion plus Catholics
What does that have to do with sexual abuse charges and findings against George Pell?
Important to reiterate that the 2 cases described here are completely separate to the cases he was tried (and later acquitted) for. Neither have previously been made public.
Louise Milligan on ABC radio this AM indicated that she was aware of “many” more similar cases that may well go down the same path in future.
The cases had not been in the public domain. Although the allegations had been widely reported. IIRC the prospect of criminal prosecution had been dismissed.
It is also important that Pell was tried for criminal offences, for which the standard of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt, far higher than the civil standard.
Yes, as I understand it the standard used by the Redress Scheme is akin to civil standard
There’s a reason why he hadnt stepped foot in Ballarat for a long time
Because he’s dead?
I’d suggest that it’s only the true believers…maybe 10% of those raised as Catholics. But many of the 90% no longer regard themselves as Catholics.
I suspect the number of “lapsed” Catholics far outweighs the number of practicing ones, at least in my experience.
