Peter "2MP" Wright - SLIGHTLY COOKED, PETER?

No but the fact that no other clubs were interested is telling

You don’t know that for sure either.

It’s like how everyone whinges when a decent player goes to another club and says “why didn’t we try and get him”. We have no ■■■■■■■ idea what negotiations happened in the background

Who is comparing him to what Daniher used to be?

Unless that Daniher miraculously returns, then Wright will probably be better value for us

I needed to be told.

Still think we should have got Brown instead even if he’s a stop gap for 2-3 years whilst Jones develops.

I don’t

Yeah!!! You’ll keep quiet if you know what is good for ya…

Bloke kicked 60 goals three years running Wright will be lucky to kick 2

Like I said I hope he proves me wrong

I just had spicey noodles for lunch, so clearly I don’t know what’s good for me!

could compare Wright to Danihers last 3 years ouput surely.
2017 maybe not.

Goals
JD 2018-2020 (18 goals) 1.2avg
2MP 2018-2020 (26 goals) 1.08avg (2020 DNP)

Joe had better seasons than Wright in two of the last three.

To put things in perspective, I had as good a year as he did last year!

Yep.

Only reason GC were keen to move on was he was on $600k sitting in their 2’s. If that wasn’t the case they’d have held onto him IMO. And certainly not a delist if OOC, he has proven can play.

That pay packet also same reason clubs it appears had minor interest. Seems we were able to negotiate something with GC to have part of it paid and also restructure his contract moving forwards as well so it was viable. As well as only giving up a future 4th?

He’s coming in for McKernan not Daniher, and on comparison with other clubs fwd/rucks not their star forwards he should be a serviceable player for us. Against what he cost us very good value.

A lot of our apparent interest in McDonald and other mature talls seems to have been a negotiation tactic with GC.

We wanted Wright, but only if GC paid a significant chunk of $$$. GC said “nah, we’re not paying that much. Take him on say $450k per year.”

Suddenly we are into other talls. GC need Wright gone so relent and up their salary contribution. We get him for around $300k.

GC did say that others were interested but they would only be dealing with Essendon. There may have been an aspect of Wright saying “it’s Essendon or I stay.”

There may also have been an aspect of GC are full of crap that nobody else was genuinely interested and knew we would call their bluff.

Both Pies and Cats supposedly had interest

But he certainly was not a primary target

I would expect Pies needed to move Cox on if we were to go after 2MP moreso, their cap position left them with no wriggle room really. And Cats once Cameron nominated them were no longer looking at kpf options.

““Towards the backend of the season I started having conversations with my manager and a few clubs and Essendon showed interest early. I had some discussions with Adrian (Dodoro) and Truck and got a good feel for the club and they identified me as someone who could play a role in the side and I definitely see myself doing that if I play my best football.”
