Places you visited as a child

Apparently there was 2 "lion safari parks" one was in rockbank (which you can still see the toilet blocks with the writting on it) and the other was in bacchus marsh.

Visited the one in Rockbank.
What happened if your car broke down?

We went once to the Bacchus marsh one in the old mans HT Holden. It was about 35 degrees and we had to wind all the windows up, no air con in those days. Due to a lion being on top of a car in front of us it took ages before we could out and we were almost dead.

Well since you mentioned Bacchus Marsh, our school used to go to music camps there. The camps were actually a lot of fun, but I do remember the first time we went they did not allow us to have water for three days. All we got was this feral cordial, by god we where thirsty. Apparently due to water restrictions we weren't allowed to have drinking water

"...This one time at band camp..."

Also went to the that in 97 and 98. One year we had several dead animals infront of our cabin and despite tour requests it was not moved we had to deal with the smell the wholeeeee time.

I dont think there is anymore smorgys thou.....Lingy took over Geelongs and bundoora burnt down...What ever happened to Sizzler?

I worked at Sizzler in Geelong when I was at high school.  The company that owend it when belly-up one weekend and they all closed.  Same company owned the eat-in Pizza Hut restaurants, which is why PH is now those little take-away stores rather than the eat-in type. The Sizzlers in Queensland are owned by a different company which is why they're still around.  I had left by the time the Vic ones closed, but I had mates who turned up for their shift on a Monday morning to find a hand-written sign saying "Sizzler has gone out of business and won't be re-opening. Sorry about your jobs." The manager was basically told to turn off the lights and lock the door when he left on the Sunday night.  My mates decided on a severance package for themselves, so they got in the back door (we all knew how and there was no security system) and helped themselves to all the vacuum-sealed bags of steaks, chicken, fish, chips, etc in the freezers (boxes and boxes of them still frozen), and cooking equipment. Crazy.

I can confirm Seagull Paddock was the place with the giant slides near the Ford factory. There was talk of building a giant water park with a wave pool there but it never eventuated.

I remember school trips to Sovereign Hill and Kryall Castle as a kid. And the giant earthworm down Gippsland way.

There's still a dine-in Pizza Hut in Ballarat, and they still do "The Works"

I remember going to Happy Hens just outside Meredith with the big-■■■ slides.

Pretty sure there is an all you can eat pizza hut in Bendigo still, It isnt to crash hot thou.

Went clam collecting at Coogee Beach once.

Don't remember the clams all that much but I vividly remember the stench from the tannery on the way to the beach.

The ol' bag told us to close the windows and hold our breath for a while.

Didn't work.

The Eltham roller rink was as cool as it gets.

If you didn't have your birthday party there then you were a loser.

Does anyone know if they still have that talking christmas tree in at Myer I think it was in the CBD? That thing used to scare the hell out of me

Please ban abers from this thread.

There's definitely still a few around. Scoresby and Bayswater for starters. Interesting places, to say the least, lol. I wrote an article on an expedition to one a few years ago ( for a motorcycle magazine website of all things!), they are like a time machine back to Bogan Australia.

I don't doubt that they're still around, but I can't imagine them still being cool.

Nth Stradbroke Island.  Went there three or four years in a row, one year we were fortunate enough to have a pod of whales come right in and swim about 20-30M right off the lookout, was spectacular.

Also a Japanese man drowned on same day while trying to get close for a photo.

(sounds like a stereotype, but it happened)

Coroner reported it was for scientific reasons?

The cuckoo is still awesome.
Interesting mention of the swagman. The big one was in FTG, but it mysteriously burnt down. Then it became Stylus nightclub, which mysteriously burnt down. Then it reopened as diamonds nightclub for a few months, which mysteriously burnt down.
Now its an Aldi, which won't burn down.

Stylus! How big was that joint?! Mainly went to Jooce but ventured out to FTG now and then.

A recent discussion at work come up about places we visited as kids, First one i can remember is “Wobbies World” … which i am lead to believe now is a plant farm…Also somebody mentioned to me they went to lion safari park in bacchus marsh and rockbank.

The site of Wobbies World, which is currently a plant place, is about to become the new Forest Hill Police Station!!!
