Would have been hard to get Wanga and Jobe in together wouldn't it.Our last three Brownlow medalists missed out?

Probably wouldn't have been all THAT hard to have one of them though, would it?
Bill Hutchinson was a bit before my time.Number 7 should be Bill Hutchison... that's a pretty obvious oversight.
Can argue that Zaka may eventually eclipse Hardwick at Number 11.
I would put Longy at Number 13 instead, he was more magical.
Not sure which of Sommerville or Hille is better at Number 19... I'd be inclined towards Hille based on number of goals kicked.
Ben Howlett for Number 40 and Baguley for Number 46.
Sorry, re-read your first post more carefully and realized that I missed your statement of "the best players that I have seen play", so yes, he was before your time :)
Nope Baker is in my top 5 players at Essendon, sorry just my opinion.Probably wouldn't have been all THAT hard to have one of them though, would it?Would have been hard to get Wanga and Jobe in together wouldn't it.Our last three Brownlow medalists missed out?

Baker was a gem. lf you tried to live on the difference between him and Jobe and Wanganeen, you would starve to death. Not much to separate all of them in terms of quality, they are all top notch.
Completely agree Captain, I am also working on the a team of the best players I have seen and have all three of them in the side, just tinkering a bit before I post it.Baker was a gem. lf you tried to live on the difference between him and Jobe and Wanganeen, you would starve to death. While I haven't seen Daniher play, Hird is rated pretty high as one of the all time greats. Pretty sure he has #5 locked in forever.
I loved Scotty Lucas but at 25 I’d have Graham Moss ahead of him.
Never saw Moss lay, but he must have been very special.I loved Scotty Lucas but at 25 I'd have Graham Moss ahead of him.
49 - James Hird
17. Steve Carey - 1985 premiership player who broke Leigh Matthews cheekbone in Lethal's final game. I still loving watching that though Matthews to his credit got up, shook his head, rubbed the blood of his cheek and slotted his last career goal.
17. Daryl Gerlach - was a recruiter for the Dons in the 70's and invited me up to train with the under 19s. He was a far better footballer that a talent scout.
7 Solly?
Preface this by saying I'm too young to remember Dunnell playing, but:
Solly 160+ games (for us), 1 flag, very very very good player in a very intimidating backline, very good performer in finals
vs
100 games, 1 flag, ?? thought he was a bit parts type.
End of Solly's career was pretty bad but he was a very good player.
4 - Watson
13 - Long
41 - Lovett
I guess 35 - Young
19 Hille
I'd certainly have Longy before Daisy Williams (and I'm old enough to remember both ;) )
I love the debate involving TD v Hird and Baker v Wanganeen V Jobe....I'm not going to dispute your choices as I still think of TD as possibly the best player I've seen wearing an Essendon jumper and Leon Baker was right up there as well.
As others have indicated, I'd have Solly ahead of Dunell.
All in all, a damn fine effort to develop your list and give the rest of us the opportunity to think back on some of the great players to have worn the red and black.
You would have TD ahead of Hird?
That is brave.
Not really that brave a call, TD was pretty special too.
True, but I would rate Hird ahead because he's won a Brownlow and has 5 B&F vs TD's 4... plus he's coached the Bombers!
TD 4 B&F's?? Try 1.
- Judd Lalich
- Grenvold over Moorcroft for me. I really liked him.
Tough assignment this one. During my time, this is how I rated the numbers…
- Mark Harvey
- Mark Mercuri
- Paul Salmon
- Gavin Wanganeen
- James Hird
- Neale Daniher
- Dean Solomon
- Darren Bewick
- Brendon Goddard
- Garry Foulds
- Damien Hardwick
- Andrew Welsh
- Michael Long
- Jason Johnson
- Alan Ezard
- Paul Barnard
- Steve Carey
- Matthew Lloyd
- David Hille
- Tony Buhagiar
- Ken Fletcher
- Bill Duckworth
- David Myers
- Joe Misiti
- Scott Lucas
- Mark Thompson
- Simon Madden
- Paul Weston
- David Grenvold
- Paddy Ryder
- Dustin Fletcher
- Tim Watson
- Glenn Hawker
- Merv Neagle
- Barry Young
- Scott Cummings

- Ben Howlett
- Andrew Lovett
- Nathan Lovett-Murray
- Dean Rioli
- Justin Madden
- Damien Peverill
- Mark Baguley
- Rick Olarenshaw

It was hard to leave out guys like Leon Baker, Terry Daniher, Anthony Daniher, Paul Van Der Haar, Jobe Watson, Gary O’Donnell, Shane Heard (who I really rated), Derek Kickett, Mark Johnson, Sean Wellman etc…
You would have TD ahead of Hird?
That is brave.
Somerville ahead of Hille is interesting and no Long is highly questionable. I would think that Jobe's 184 games tips things in his favour over Wanganeen and Baker who only played 127 and 86 respectively.
