Political Correctness

As do I, to a point. How hard is it to ‘unlearn’ something as an adult?

On the head.

If people are trying to do the right thing, trying to change, and making a slip: i think that’s human, and excusable.

When people dig their heels in, because it’s easier to be rude than change their use of a word, they can get stuffed.

Political correctness is typically used by the left in an attempt to change thoughts and behaviors of others to match their own. Plain and simple.

Does that mean being right is the opposite?

Yep. Politics is unique like that.

The only arena where Left is right, and Right is wrong.

Can PC flip though? Or is it perspective based.

I’ll explain.

If equal opportunity for women / disabled / (insert cultural group) was PC gone mad 40yrs ago (i.e. non mainstream, leftist/socialist ideology, etc …).

If its mainstream now. Is it still PC if its brought up now or is it now PC if someone says those that could be seen to be disadvantaged by equal opportunity i.e. white anglo saxon male blah blah, complain about said equal opportunity.

Would love to know others thoughts.

LOL TEH LEFT.

I got really confused about PC some 20 odd years ago. Especially when say a company like Amstrad in the 80’s were making all their own models and then by the 90’s switched to manufacturing PC compatibles. I think even Commodore had a dip.

Call me old fashioned but that was PC gone mad. I preferred the old days when some of us used 3 and a quarter inch disk while others used floppy disks and we generally stuck to our own. You knew where you stood, it was a simpler time.

Can’t help but think that people mix up PC with common human decency and respect for others.

Phrases like “PC gone mad” and “Nanny state” are just the mating call of the great Aussie bogan.

So tell me…did you ever sneak a peek at someone’s 51/4" floppy?

At times yes when people are being subject to ugly discrimination from others, but sometimes people just want to put in their 2 cents worth and exercise control when there is no problem with a situation/conduct or whatever.

Just because someone perceives and highlights someone else’s wrong doing doesn’t mean they are right in doing so or are correct in their assessment. No one is perfect and we can’t protect everyone from some future time when they might not be happy because of someone else. Otherwise we will be labelling everyone stupid, with bad intentions and be living in a society full of rules and laws.

ahm…

Lol. Thoughts and behaviours… ie Human rights.

not always… at my old workplace I was told that they had to stop doing a yearly group exercise which involved touching the shoulder of the person standing next to you, because one person said it made them feel uncomortable and didnt believe it was correct in this day and age…

madness.

Yeah all those poor violated souls needling to call something a manhole.

And study history. And use a pedestrian crossing with a green man indicating it’s all ok.

Do you need a safe space where you can not feel so threatened?

First, they changed all crossing indicators to female, to appease the masses.

This sparked outrage from the indignant male contingent claiming discrimination, as well as the female contingent claiming patronisation.

Half of the signs were changed back to male, in what was believed to be a sure-fire way to indicate equality.

Chaos ensued from both sides, but the most tumultuous disruptions came from the multi-identifiable minorities., who exclaimed that “…this was a clear and direct assault on our liberties and freedom by using gender-specific signals to show direction in an overt attack on the many of us that refute all gender…”

The signs were promptly changed to red crosses and green arrows - some would say, this was the obvious choice, all along.

But then one day, overnight, every single directional crossing sign was changed to a monkey.
