Politics

Doesn’t matter if Shorten is unelectable. Rudd’s parting “gift” means it takes months to force a change. Just gotta plow on.

I like to think they appointed him as the usual sacrificial leader after a big loss… but had no idea how badly the Abbott government would self-destruct.

Because he’s a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Has very centre left ideals, but trying to appease the hard right, has him stuck between a rock & a very hard place. Doesn’t know if he’s Arthur, or Martha.

Until & unless, he has complete power to be at least mostly himself, the waffling & dithering will continue.

Turnbull was never ‘very centre left’.

He’s moderately central on a small number of social issues - the republic, climate change in particular - but economically he’s even further right than Abbott. Turnbull is a hard core privatiser, union-breaker, deregulator, offshorer, and wage-lowerer, whereas Abbott’s economic policy was a bit of an ideologically confused mess with a hate for unions and a desire to gut welfare mixed up with an instinctive nationalist protectionist instinct, quite aside from the bloke’s utter inability to hold a consistent line on anything at all when under pressure.

If Turnbull got to bring down the budget he really wants to, it’d scare the pants off a hell of a lot of people who think he’s some sort of wishy-washy moderate. Ironically, the hard right Libs who hold his leash on social issues are probably also reining him in on economics as well (cos they want to be re-elected), or else he might have gone ham already.

… but he doesn’t continually embarrass the country by his behaviour and words.

Shorten could not lead if he was the head of a dress up horse.

Penny Wong is the best leader in that party, and she will not get the chance because there is no way the country would elect a gay Asian woman.

It’s sad.

With that being said my I’d still take billy over anyone in the other mob, but Wim is right, he is unelectable.

Like the Greens self interested deal with the devil on Senate voting reform, I reckon you’ve got it wrong there.

Except for the part about Wong being unelectable, female, asian and gay, … it’s a no win trifecta.

I was nearly going to start a poll on labour l/ship. I think there’s a few the equal or better than Wong.

Pliba, Burke, Chris Bowen, all have come on in opposition, and are very good figure heads.

Bill is very politically savvy, but he doesn’t have it. And until he stops saying uvver, & wiff, I don’t think he’'ll get it.

The lack of charisma is almost Abbottesque.

If Labour had a decent leader, or at least one more likeable, the Lib’s would right now be in a very bad way.

Shortens lack of appeal could be the one thing that saves them… if he can’t turn it around, & for what it’s worth, I think he’s trying.

He’s certainly coming to play in Parliament, & is scoring points, … we’ll see.

Australia really should be offering assistance to our Fijian mates. Unless we're still sh*tty with F Bainimarama. Which is not a good reason not to help.

Isn’t it Barmeybanana?

While the Libs still roll out the likes of Bernadi and Abetz to talk about topics such as same sex attraction, Labs will stand a chance.

I think the Fiji situation is a political nightmare at the moment. A couple of weeks ago it was announced that Russia would be rearming the Fiji Military. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t help but adds a layer of complexity.

Seems all the Coalition can do is press panic buttons and deflect.

Let’s look at the review into Safe Schools being pushed by Bernardi and supported by Turnbull, a program that looks at eliminating bullying of those who are LGBTI.

Why should there need to be a review into such a positive program? This is Bernardi’s religious position influencing Coalition decisions.

Because he thinks teachers should be telling kids to be straight like they’re supposed to be if they ■■■■■■ behaved properly dammit!

You are another whinging fark, who doesn’t have a clue. Bill is the Leader of my Party, and I won’t even comment on the Leader of yours.

You need to learn of few lessons in loyalty.

and that, ladies and gentleman is exhibit A in what’s wrong with Australian politics.

Being loyal to a political party is patently ridiculous. It’s not footy. If you don’t open yourself to the possibility that another party could govern better, you’re not really trying.

What is wrong with politics in this country has nothing to do with politics.

It is total disrespect that muppets like you have for any politician. I know many State and Federal MPs from all sides of Politics across the Country, and while some are a bit different, all I know work hard, have high integrity and think they are doing the best they can for their fellow Australians.

I don’t agree with some of the policy and actions of my Party, a great deal of the LNP and farking everything that the Greens does, but I don’t attack Abbott / Turnbull, Di Natale or any of them on a personal basis.

So Ben, attack the Party policy, but stop your farking whinging about the individuals as all it does is continue the tall poppy crap.

During question time, Malcolm was speculating that rolling back negative gearing would cause a property bust

Since when is it the PMs job to be commentating on investment assets in question time?

They really need to have a disclaimer of, how any properties they have that are NG. I believe at last count Malcolm has 30?

It is the same people spruiking they will not have enough super to retire on are making a yearly cash loss on their properties :s

He’s probably lovely.
I don’t think unelectable is personal.

Being loyal to a political party is patently ridiculous. It's not footy. If you don't open yourself to the possibility that another party could govern better, you're not really trying.

Well Windy Dill, I joined the ALP in 1971. I have held many positions within the Party and have worked hard to get us in Government.

I am loyal to the Party socialist principles, loyal to the Party Policy that have been democratically agreed by the Members, and loyal to my Colleagues. I did not vote for Bill Shorten as Leader, but he was elected under the rules and I support him. I fight tooth and nail within the Party to get my views on top, but even when I get rolled, which is often, I continue to support and be publicly loyal.

And I don’t think that any other Party could possibly govern better than Labor, just as I think there is no greater football team than the Bombers. You really do not understand loyalty.

exactly, im sure if I sat down with him over a beer id find him a great guy, doesn't mean as presenting himself as the better alternative to the current prime minister and government he hasn't screwed the pooch.

Does anyone here have any fking idea what the Liberals, … & O’Dwyer inparticular, are saying about Labours negative gearing policy?? … No??

That’s probably ok, because she & they don’t either!

Seriously … wtf are they on about?? Do they think they have “the force” or something?

Black is White … White is Black … the droids you are looking for …

Why hasn’t the former Afghan prime minister - Did You Like My Dinner Jacket - offered helped to Fiji?
