I know. I’ve been wondering how I am going to best spend this windfall on job creation myself. So far I’m thinking $1500 will get me an unpaid intern but not much else.

It makes me chuckle when I see the TripEss post about Left vs Right. For a very long time, I have been in the Labor Party and go to meetings where the “Left” fight the “Right”. It is really in this regard the realists versus the idealists; and in the “Right” there are the pragmatists vs the populists, and in the “Left” the pragmatists vs the revolutionaries.

The irony is that when you sit down and talk with anyone with any intelligence and discuss the issues facing us; you find much agreement and a willingness to work towards solutions. It is just the Politics that fark us all over.

I’ve long said the problem with Politics, is the politics of Politics.

Sure you can, serviced apartments, commercial properties, short term rental properties (air bnb), defence house, government housing

Most of the above will yield 5-10%+

As far as I’m aware rents are at almost historic lows (compared to property prices).

I think there’s got to be correction at some point. If the government/s don’t do anything, the market will do it regardless - and it won’t be pretty.

Mrs Fox and I have a rental property ( don’t tell the Party) and I would love to positively gear it.

We have had it about six years, rental returns are about 3.5 % and it has appreciated about 16% since we purchased it over those six years.

But we lose money each year, with loan repayments, and all the expenses of Body Corp fees, Rates, Land tax etc.

And negative gearing and claiming interest in your tax is only good if you have enough income to gear it against. I am a poor investor and should just have my money in a jam tin in the back yard. Lucky I am so good looking

PM announcing airport train. I haven’t seen anything from state government saying this is something they are doing. Is this just a thought bubble the Feds can announce to appear to do something or is it legit?

From what I understand (via second hand info) is that the Train will be a non-starter for at least another 20 - 30 years due to agreement between state govt and the group that built citylink.
