Because I know a $2 Million house in Melbourne sure doesn’t look as impressive as they used to, but you still need $2 Million to buy it, and that’s still a fark-ton of money for the large majority of people.
But yes, if it stays at the $2 Million figure, it’s gonna start to present some problems 5+ years from now.
How many ‘houses’ are there in the 3000 postcode? Odd way to make your point. $700k for Melbourne metro, which I think is far more relevant to 99.99% of the population.

Obviously prices drop away the further out from the CBD. That was also intimated in the OP.
I know people love to argue details, and even better love shooting the messenger, but perhaps they would be better served by taking a look at this radical policy and what it will mean in the years to come when rising prices and lower thresholds will involve more people.

He is a financial advisor based in Vic. The stamp duty statement is a reference to the reliance that State Govts have to stamp duty on property sales - this makes up a third of Victoria’s revenue. You can look it up in the budget papers.
Taxation administered by ATO is of course federal policy. That IS the Tories. It will impact on all States including those that have Labor govts
I think most people still think 2mil properties are indicative of pretty well off owners. Of course, it all hinges on what gets you a "tax clearance".
As I mentioned $2M will not buy much in inner Melbourne or Sydney. Properties there are increasing at 10% a year so will not be too long before more and more are in this price range.
And as I indicated, this is the thin end of the wedge.

In Cowan, I haven't seen one campaign poster, received any material by post, received any phone spam, no door knockers, nothing from the ALP or any other opposition party. Plenty of Tory propaganda. Letters, signs in people's yards (lots of those) but zip from the ALP. If they're running a candidate, I have no idea who it is. What is it, two weeks to go?
Anne Aly is the Labor Candidate.
She is another hampered by lack of funds, as it was not considered winnable until about 6 weeks ago, when polling showed that the new redistribution gives a bigger boost than expected.
Tough seat to win but Liberals think they will lose it and will spend big in the next week or so.
In my electorate, where our Labor sitting Member has a 4.9% margin, we have $60,000 to spend of which most has come from the Members pocket. Liberals are spending over $250,000 in a seat they cannot win. Expensive business these elections are, and after the event when payments are made to Parties dependent on number of votes, none of it comes to our electorate!
