Praccy match v Cats -- some Cat time, some Cat place

Preseason Pro v Con list
Pros -

  1. Sometimes look awesome playing with ourselves.
  2. Players paid their own way to US for training smashathon.
  3. Nate Caddy.

Cons -

  1. Beaten by 10 goals in first hitout.
  2. No forward line.

So far - Cons > Pros,
but if we can beat cats in an insignificant practice runaround, this place will go off like a chinese blackmarket firecracker.

Team?

i.e. “where’s the…”

Lav might make up for the lack of physical competitiveness of Weid and Jones, but that change isn’t going to help in how fast and easy the opposition take the ball out of our forward line.

Essendon always appears to be beaten by opposition back half interceptors. When, oh, when are we going to win a few games via our forward half interceptors.

Langford manages a few contested marks, Wright runs hot and cold, and then there’s… umm. I suppose, come on down, Caddy.

When I’m watching a game, unless an Essendon player has the foot skills to hit up a leading forward, I never expect Essendon to mark the football once it gets past the wing. To my eye, there’s no competitive aerial presence at all. Hmm, maybe Durham occasionally.

And yep, these same blokes in our forward line don’t know how to, or aren’t willing to, lock the ball up in the forward half. It just waltzes back out again.

Essendon’s back men are regularly our best players because they’re just about always in the play. More often than not, performing minor miracles above and beyond.

How disheartening it must be for our back men to see their hard earned defence repelling moves being returned so easily, sometimes without any body on body contact, the whole length of the ground.

There’s nothing more inane than protecting space and then being picked apart. The modern idea of protecting space is great get-out-of-jail card for players not tackling or manning up.

Anyways, I digress; Essendon forward aerial prowess… Lacking.

Someone (I think Jono Brown) recently called that training trip a placebo effect, being a pro is questionable - further weight to the cons imo.

Wouldn’t be tinkering too much with the squad at all.

Tracking beautifully at the minute.

Indication from Captains run this morning

Lav and Heppell to play VFL - Cox picked as the 7th defender
Hind, Menzie and Davey all playing with AFL team.
Stringer looks to be playing VFL also.

Like I said just an indication based on what I was told (training top colours and groups)

We’ll find out at 5pm today

Results matter.

If they turn up and put a tepid performance against Hawthorn or Sydney in the first two rounds - two teams with lighter inexperienced bodies(or as much as) then yeah agree with Brown.

Otherwise what else could they do after they served up that junk to end the year.

The last month of football was unacceptable. The efforts from about post Adelaide on.

When your in line to play finals, well imho it should have put a red texta through quite a few names. Not up to afl level

If thats true some big calls. potentially more to have a look at others, and likely want a bit more speed in the side.

Stop being so.so negative and pessemistic please i hope the players dont read this

hope Brad approaches this game aggressively. Tell a few blokes to hurt Geelong with intent. Then everyone flies the flag.
Let eveyone know we mean business even if we lose.
Send a message and make it a non negotiable. 4 quarters every game! We now have some depth.
Hello 2000.

I thought Stringer was fit and ready to go this pre season?

Brad has swung the axe its seems.

If someone with Stringer’s physical gifts and determination can make the lofty heights of VFL, then what’s stopping you and I?

The Colonel has swung the app, it seems.
