A lot of useless possession padding by our midfield
Relatively happy with what i saw, for the first time in ages we werent bullied around the ball by geelong, we finally have some backs who can stop the gorillas from destroying us, cameron and hawkins were non factors thanks to reid and mckay.
Would love to have won but clearly wasnt the most important thing for the coaches given the way we set up in the last.
Worryingly we lost a fair bit when goldy moved out of the ruck and bryan came in, shows the value of a ruckman who is an expert in his craft and while bryan is showing potential, still has a long way to go.
Thought Jones presented really well and was a lot more involved than last week, Gresham will be a fantastic pickup for us.
The small forward role is a problem, gresham can somewhat make up for this however he appears to be playing higher, guelfi… what can i say, everything he touched turned to crap starting with the disastrous checkside attempt from 10m out. Would play hind there and instruct to stay deep, he is lively, creative and can lay a tackle until the davey boys fill out.
Overall feeling much better about the upcoming season, was in panic mode after the stkilda game.
this makes lot of sense.
it is possible though that the team that has been significantly more successful and professional over countless seasons going back to about 2004 may well have the superior, tested and more proven approach.
I wonder why a team like that was trying to win a practice match and a team like us wasn’t.
There enough positivity in this thread to have prompted me to re-sign to Kayo.
What if we did put the cue in the rack and have the capacity to school Geelong at Kardinia Park with a rusty 2MP, Perkins and no Drapes or Hobbs?
Geelong had Stewart, Cameron, Duncan, Holmes and other rested in the last. People are telling themselves what they want to hear.

Just catching up…but wtf was this?
I could have kicked it for him ffs.
No matter what it was a good hit out in Geelong.
Agree but it’s taken them a few years to get to this stage. And they’re yet to win the big one. Came bloody close though.
I make one assumption about games we play, which is that the intent of the team is to win.
If that’s not a valid assumption, then it damn well ought to be. There is zero point in playing a competitive game for with any intention other than to win. Yes, it was a practice match. What point is there in practising losing?
I rate that game as not as bad as it could have been, but not very good.
Best things. We appeared to come intending to win. And when Geelong were in front by two goals with 5 or so minutes to play, it didn’t blow out to a 5-goal loss.
That’s about it.
Worst things. For the first three quarters we were playing against a team that seemed not to be trying. And when they did try a little bit at the end, and kicked a few goals instead of missing sitters, they walked past us as if we weren’t there.
Our forward line as a whole is hopeless. Langford is the only one who consistently does what a full forward should and takes marks and kicks goals. Peter Wright is a one-trick pony – probably half a trick really – and Stringer can always be relied upon to let you down when you need him most; took a difficult mark 35 out on a slight angle and managed to kick out on the full. Jones got a bit of the ball up around the wing, but provided no target in the forward 50. Gresham looked okay but nothing special. Menzie did his usual trick of touching the ball about 4 times.
The defence does look better with McKay and Reid. Martin in defence is a mixed bag – did some lovely things and turned it over a few times too. Ridley seemed to be in excellent form, but got injured. Just what we need.
6 out of 10 for mine. At least we didn’t simply lie down and roll over.
Still gets me how they sit around on their ass for the rest of the game before going to the hospital, or getting scans or taking a bath like other meer mortals would do. I would wither in pain but still ya know
A team of little boys against a team of men!
To add insult to injury, just watched Patrick Voss (who’s at least built like a man) take a strong mark and with ease, proceed to kick a long 55 metre goal for Freo!!!
Rohan. Nothing without his throng of disciples
We desperately need to find another small forward to help Gresham. Hind did a bit when he came on but can’t necessarily be relied on.
15 metres out on a slight angle.
My nanna could have drilled it.
No we still have the Weed & Jones.
Dosent play rnd 1 for that
im gonna say that gresham is gonna be a great pickup. smart forward and a bit of a pest.
McKay was handy, Duursma is a lot tougher in the clinches than I thought.
Goldy works his way in to the game was good.
Guelfi and Laverde worry me.
Menzie isn’t playing round 1 after his two preseason games. Very ordinary player IMO. Play Davey, Hind and Guelfi sub or bench
menzie was good last year?
