I went to a fark carlton pre season game, and they looked 100% switched on and our team looked despondent, everyone except Tippa who was everywhere, and saved us from a 100 point loss, our players looked exhausted and tired in the 1st qtr, no structure, getting blasted at every centre clearance
The players need to know we have to beat not just the opposition, but the umpiring who has been so incredibly biased against us for a long time, especially vs the dogs. We need to work our way up the ladder so we’re on the right end of that ladder bias. Only then are we a chance of making it out of round 1 of the finals.
Like Melbourne last year, just complete commitment to the game plan and each other, game in game out.
No point reading too much into preseason games, they are what they are & as long as there are no serious injuries I’ll be happy.

I think the Tuddenham story may have been apocryphal. Not so with the Coleman instance. The umpire in question was Barry Gaudion who related the story to the author. Hugh Mitchell also confirmed the incidence. According to Mitchell Coleman said “you little white maggot. How in the hell did you learn to umpire.” Gaudion said “if you dont shup up I will report you” Coleman replied “Oh you wouldnt report me you are too weak”.
Gaudion recalls, he shouted words that included “where did we win you from. Did we draw you out of a barrell” Coleman then said "I am sorry Barry for what I said but I still think you are a prick of an umpire.
