Pre-Match vs Gold Coast (MS) - Team Talk/Selections/Thoughts

Who knows how we go. We “should” win easily, but we’ve said that many times before. Even last season when they were rubbish and teams were thumping them we struggled for the first 2 and a half quarters. Only really got on top of them in the last

Myers, Stringers - calf or just an excuse?
Given Myers’ soft tissue history, they might give him a rest.
Clarke to get another run?
Ambrose, hamstring - Dea in for Ambrose
Long will keep his spot since the coach singled him out for praise
Just the 2 changes for mine.

Whatever else is planned, the GCS players will be licking their lips, anticipating getting an armchair ride from the maggots.

Anything less than 50 points i’ll be disapointed

Is Hurley injured or is this the new standard? If he is injured it must be time to put the shutters down on season 2018 get him in for whatever he needs and get him ready for preseason 2019 while letting the young blokes get some experience.

In: Francis, Parish, Fantasia, Dea
Out: Ambrose(inj) Myers (inj) Sringer (injured) McNeice (ommitted)

B: McKenna Hooker Francis
HB: Saad Hurley Dea
C: Long Langford McGrath

Hoping Fantasia is ok and Stringer can play. Happy to rest Myers.
If Fantasia doesnt get up then colyer probably stays in, or Green.

Anyone watch the VFL today and see how Parish went? If he got through okay, surely he’d be in the mix.

Really? Excellent news. He looked good in the VFL prior to injury and he’s been able to maintain a solid block of running.

Bring him in. Especially if Myers is out.

Somebody mentioned in another thread he had a heap of the ball & something like 10 clearances. If thats correct he has to come back in.

The year is gone, time to salvage something from the wreck. Give Long at least 4 more games to see what he can offer. If he’s still playing ok & progressing then persist if not delist at the end of the year. We can’t keep hanging on to players who are not going to take us forward. Play Ridley, Mutch, Clarke & its time to make hard calls on guys like Myers, Colyer, Green, Brown, Hartley & even Bags. Good honest triers isn’t good enough, we need to find a team that can make & win finals.

Raz for Colyer
Francis for Ambrose
Dea for McNiece
Clarke for Myers if injured
Would love Parish in but for who?

From the ‘Around the grounds’ article on the AFL website:

“Young gun Darcy Parish had 39 possessions (including 21 contested) and 10 clearances in Essendon’s 7.15 (57) to 13.11 (89) loss to Richmond.

Parish hasn’t played at the top level since the Bombers’ round eight loss to Carlton, and will likely be in contention for a promotion after Essendon’s AFL side lost to Collingwood on Sunday.

James Stewart kicked two goals, had 14 touches and eight marks, while 19-year-old Brandon Zerk-Thatcher (13 possessions, six marks) showed good signs.

And Dylan Clarke (23 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances) worked hard all day.”

Belly, Myers, Stringer & Raz all have some doubt over them. Ambrose is gone.
Good chance to give Parish, Draper & Francis some AFL time,
& give Longy another game.

Draper’s ruck work is seriously good. Wouldn’t hurt to give Belly a game off.

Now this is the game I’ve been very worried about.

I thought Hurley had his best game this year yesterday?

Bit perplexing that somebody might think he was poor… He and Hooker dominated across half back. They were put to the sword at the start of the last when our pressure on the ball evaporated and Collingwood walked it out of the centre square. But that was hardly their fault.
