Pre-season training 2019-11-25 Monday

Agree with Wim, I expect a transition year and I’m not even sure we will make finals.

The pleasing thing is out of midfielders our oldest are Heppel 27 and Zaka 29. So we have a good solid core group of midfielders now coming into prime. This should be the focus of a decent sized window over the next 5 years. Good enough as a group, who knows.

But the talls do need to go through transition, even more so if Joe leaves. We need to build a best 22 without Hurley, Hooker, TBC and Daniher. It will provide challenges. Pleasingly Dodoro recognises the issue and didn’t draft ordinary inside mids like the majority wanted.

There are far more questions than answers with our side and that is a problem that stretches back over a decade.

The only way to change that is to get results.

You say we lack consistency but I actually think we are very consistent. We lack professionalism and desire.

I don’t agree.
12 wins, 8th-10th is not terrible.

It is, however, no-man’s land. Not bad enough to rebuild, not good enough to not rebuild.

Anyway, not really for this thread.

I rather grunt, tackling, toughness over flashy, skilful, fast players that our team is full off

Our list’s ok, the talent’s there, we just need them to start producing their best more consistently. Sorry for being Captain Obvious.

The fact Brisbane let him go for pick 700 says he’s not the full package.
As I say, I like him, I think we badly need an outside runner & distributor, but I think it’s folly to pencil him in as an inside midfielder, much less a guy who points to a change in gameplan direction.

It’s easy to convince yourself (based on the hype here) we’ve recruited 6x brownlow medallists. Is it ever realistic?

Haven’t really noticed anyone who said he’s gonna be our inside mid, just that he’s a big-bodied mid. But yeah, even Jackets made it clear that he was recruited to be our wingman. I just hope he’s better than Guelfi, and keeps DClarke out so guys like McGrath can play inside instead of him.

No- mans land is exactly where we have been for a decade. we had one bottom out year due to the saga and then the rest is that mediocre area.

I think our biggest issue is our inability to get with the modern game and draft top line midfielders.

So you felt the need to disagree with me by… agreeing with me?

Cool. Have a nice day.

You said 8th-10th is not terrible.

I disagree with that.

Good day sir.

Pretty easy to end up with North Melbournes list that way.

For all you’re love of all things Richmond you haven’t noticed Martin, Edwards, Rioli, Bolton, Pickett and Stack.

You need a balance of grunt and skills to be a top side.

Agree fully.

Don’t get me wrong u need players with skill I just think we have enough of those types and need more Townsend/Hibberd types also of course I’m going to reference Richmond a lot they’re the best team of the last 3 years

Funny, thought this was the Training thread.

HAP, if Townsend was 25-30 on the Tigers list how is he 35+ on ours?

Even more so if we are at year 0 and we are.a good show of bot making finals? If that is the case surely he has to be 15-25 on our list?

We will only know if the club thinks the same as you will be if Hurley, Hooker, Zaha play VFL if they are out of form during the season.

That’s an interesting hypothetical, isn’t it?

Some people didn’t even go that far.

Some people haven’t posted in here at all.

Pretty sure he wasn’t 25-30 on Richmond’s list considering he played 1 game all year, when they had a fair few injuries early.

He’s got a body.
