Preseason Training 11/11/24 (and onwards till someone creates a new thread)

Must admit didn’t notice him
Much but it was hard to see on far side and in congested contests. Didnt see a turn over from him so thats a positive

Parish’s legs look very skinny. I wonder if his hamstring / calf issues have warranted he skim down the weight? They look like when he was drafted in 2016!

I really liked his 2024, and was a little surprised he wasn’t drafted. Good in the air, he reminds me a bit of a Rids just before he broke through - but without the latter’s capacity to use it clinically by foot, and not quite the same poise. More agile than Baldwin, not as penetrating by foot, and not as strong (different build). I’m a fan of Baldwin, but would be pretty pleased to have WH on the list. I guess it will come down to fitness/injury, and to what extent that last spot is being linked to pure defence or to a player who can be more of a swingman (I rate Baldwin forward, at least from VFL watching)

Often not.
As @bombercos mentioned earlier, I thought we were the superior team in 2021; but, carrying an injured player told after half time.

Kinda proves my point

Fair effort to attend in today’s conditions! Kudos

Our second ruck situation is going to be fascinating: Draper and Bryan to play together round one is what I’m hoping to see.

Does that mean we have Cox, Goldy, Wright in the twos?

It’s a good combo, tastes great, very refreshing.

If Hoare is a good player, being 24 is irrelevant.

Hardly involved today so not much to report

I do hope the coaches take note of which players excel at training on wet days like today.

This seasons team selections for wet weather games were disappointing.

Well personally i have SEH as a starter for round one. On a wing opposite Duursma. I sense Roberts or Prior is enough depth for half back. Both Duursma and El-Hawli can mark and run both ways. I am fine if it means Jones or Cox misses out. If i am an opposition coach… i sense i would be more concerned with how El-Hawli can impact a game.

Saad is an elite kick. If we can somehow have Roberts, Saad, Martin start giving us better ball use from half back/mid to forwards… will go some way to better scores. Martin and Saad both goal kickers helping also.

I’d love us to try and pick the strongest kicking side we possibly can.

Might look something like this (without completely forsaking team balance)

Prior McKay Reid
Redman rids Roberts

Seh parish duursma
Bryan Caldwell Durham

Martin caddy merrett
Kako langford Perkins

McGrath tsatas Shiel draper - guelfi
