Prove you're Australian or gtfo

Again, they fell for it because it's completely in line with how this government rolls. Didn't hear a single 'that can't be right' from Liberal supporters at the time. Not one.
So its still Abbott's fault because people can't control their hysteria.
Well I hope everyone is now suitably embarrassed about being outraged over nothing again. Stand by for the next first world problem to get all hashtag cray cray about when a Coalition minister yawns or scratched his nose the wrong way.

Abbott Derangement Syndrome at its finest.

One of the best descriptions of Border Farce I have read.

Errr - Abbott knew nothing about it.
For those getting their panties in a twist, all they planned to do was to follow their Vic Police colleagues around and intervene where it was thought there was a likelihood of people being here illegally.

Hilarious that people are so lost in their Abbott hate that they simply can’t even distinguish between reality and fantasy any more.

I was more commenting on the existence of Border Farce rather than just this little episode.

I wonder what we can militarize next.

Look … over there … we will keep you safe … security issue …

Gee and I thought it was all about the little hashtag campaigners keeping the people safe from the big bad security forces wanting people to show them their ‘papers.’

Ought to have been glaringly obvious when the groups concerned were the Vic Police, Metro Trains and Victorian Taxi Federation.

I think they’re responsible for their own public perception on both sides of the political spectrum, yeah.

I don’t think you’re quite grasping my point, which is that Liberal voters didn’t think it sufficiently unusual to even comment about.

Probably because they were too busy laughing at the stupidity of the twitterati and all the usual suspects who were protesting.

Yeah, that would have been it.
They’re pretty jolly fellows, the people I’m thinking of.

How do you ascertain at street level that a person may be here illegally?

Err, by asking them questions. Its called police work.

And they wouldn’t ascertain on the spot. That would be up to the courts.
Police charge. Courts decide if charge has veracity.

Please don;t tell me that some of you actually think that the police decided then and there that a person needed to be deported and he/she was then sent straight to the airport.

How do you choose which people to ask those questions of?

Why is an ABF official needed to assist routine police patrols if it is a police matter?

Why get dismissive of legitimate questions about possible abuse of authority that must be asked?

The same way police have always chosen people to speak to. Those they suspect can help them with any enquiries.
Not really reinventing the wheel here.

To paraphrase Stephen Colbert: the current Government - inept or the most inept government?

I assume the Socialist Alternative, Get Up and all the other wannabe twitter politicians were up in arms about this back in 2010.

POLICE, transport and immigration officers swooped on taxis in Brisbane's inner city on Thursday night in a major crackdown on drivers.

Dozens of officers closed down parts of Fortitude Valley after 7pm, in a major operation targeting defective vehicles, breathalysing drivers and reviewing immigration details.

A spokesman for the Department of Transport said on Thursday night that four transport officers had joined the operation to check for defective vehicles and to verify taxi licences.

Immigration officers were also on the scene, checking the visa status of drivers.

The crackdown comes only days after hundreds of drivers held protests at Brisbane Airport over working conditions.

Their complaints included inadequate waiting zones at Brisbane Airport and alleged rough handling by both federal and Queensland police.

Well, I for one am appalled.
Wasting their time. Should have been in the orchards and 7-11s.

Welcome to Stalinist Russia

Thanks, where’s my vodka and cabbage.

Just down that ramp.
In that salt mine.

Well I didn’t read the article at all but I think I can safely say that Abbott is still a carnt

The whole “border force” thing is a calculated waste of time and money. Beat up someone smaller than you = look tough.

Luckily it signals that Joe’s decided the “budget emergency” is over, despite debts ramping up & up and a downturn in Chinese trade which to many would look like a worse budget state. Income taxes to fall, corporate taxes to fall, and wasting our money on ■■■■ like this.

Again, they fell for it because it's completely in line with how this government rolls. Didn't hear a single 'that can't be right' from Liberal supporters at the time. Not one.

It was a TERRIFIC enough idea that they've canned it.

Dutton’s office are claiming they never read the press release before it went out.
I don’t know what would be sadder, if that were false or if it were true.

Some of you still don’t get it. You’ve been conned.
You got in a tiz about nothing.

Onwards and upwards though to the next first world issue. I’m sure there’s someone winking out there that needs the old mob and pitchfork treatment.

Holy mary mother of god i agree with Daytripper.

A poorly written press release, not vetted by the Ministers office and presto mass hysteria.

Was it tabled in parliament? No.

It was something put together by Vic Police and put to the State government, who green lighted it. Nothing to do with the Libs.

I’m all in favour for Lib bashing when it’s warranted, but surely Labor should be held to account for their own problems? They get off far too easily. On Blitz at least.

Border Force are part of a Federal Government Agency I believe. Which means that The relevant Federal Minister knew of the proposed operation or at least their office did.

True.

But they didn’t read the email.

Either of the emails.

Apparently.
