I thought I read that he is about to do a Prince Philip and retire from public duties. His 61yo heir apparent hasnāt been prominent in Royal parades , maybe he doesnāt want to be on Charles payroll as a working Royal ( also a bit suss as two of his kids are Catholic and canāt be in the line of succession )

( Although there was that anti doping cloud in the Sky scandal).

And he has carried the burden of Wimbledon presentations virtually solo when his now 91 yo wife retired. Wimbledon patronage has long been assigned to the Kents, his mother used to do it before his wife took over ( his brother Prince Michael and his wife are on the outer).
Camilla has been forced to fill in for Charles and Kate, at least as a Boomer she doesnāt have to perch on stilettos in public.
They probably still count him as Kenyan.

What is more than āa bit sussā is that the Poms have such institutionalized discrimination against people based on their religious beliefs.
That is illegal in Australia.
So why is our entire country held as a vassal to a King who presides over such outmoded prejudices?

TBF the monarch is the head of the Church of England so itās probably reasonable for the king/queen to be that religion. Iām assuming itās not just Catholics that are banned? I mean it would be weird if the Pope was Jewish. Mind you the idea that you can be a head of a religion simply because you are born royal is a very strange notion imo.

Most modern nations for the last couple of centuries have separated Church and State.
Is it such a great thing in the modern world that as a nation they need to keep alive a ~500 year old tradition set by his predecessor who murdered all those people and stole all that property so he could appoint and execute whatever queens he wanted to.

As I understand it the Act of Settlement requires the Monarch to be Protestant, Catholics barred and by implication any non Protestant.
There was later an agreement removing primogeniture as well as the ban on the Monarch being married to a Catholic.
The Duke of Kentās wife converted to Catholicism and his brotherās wife is a Catholic, but they are so far down the line of Succession, there are plenty to spare if William and the kids go down.

Yeah. The monarch being head of the CoE, especially given their less than exemplary behaviour through the years is a head scratcher. Very Borgia-like.

It goes back to William and Mary and James II attempts to restore Catholicism as the established religion . IIRC it was also a bit of a language clean up as Henry VIII styled himself as Catholic ( the English version as distinct from the Roman one ruled by the Pope).
Also, āProtestantā covered the Church of Scotland, so in theory you donāt have to be Anglican.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church is the establishment Church in Denmark. The Monarch is required to be a member of that faith ( there are different branches of the Lutheran faith).
The Church of Sweden ( Evangelical Lutheran) is the established Church of Sweden, the Monarch must be of that faith.
There are other examples.
As with the Catholic Emancipation Acts of England, most barriers to Catholics in employment have been removed ( the ban in the British Army was removed, with so many Irish making up the numbers).
