Rd. 23: Essendon vs Richmond

We should definitely debut Ashby and Van Unen this week, if we use it to get some of our young players some experience it's not a total waste of time. Kav should play also.

Ask the boys if they want to play. if they don't, let some kids play. Let them leave the club a week early and freshen up for next year.

I hope we come out angry and kick 10 goals in the first quarter *

*May not happen.

I hope they kick out to a massive lead, then grab all the balls and just wander off into the crowd and grab pies & beers etc. Reward the members by sitting down & having a chat.

smash the weak dogs. That is all.

unfortunately i broke the story about the EFC DEAL being on with the AFL last week after a tip off, from the club but with no great joy I must admit. I was wanting it to be settled in court and admired James Hird's G&D ... I was promptly PMd by Reboot to provide sources but thats Ok, no malice intended, no offence taken, being an essendon supporter since 1981 this outcome is devastating for me personally and all red blooded EFC supporters I am sure. As we are Essenon though, make no mistake the Red and Black Empire will strike back, they always do, better than ever, look no further than 2013, 2000, 1993, 1984  to know that the club's legendary fighting spirit and resilience is alive and well, and always will be, the supporters are the lifeblood of the club.  This is I assure you is just a temporary setback albeit not a great one. The club has held itself with great character in the face of adversity and will rise above this better than ever.

I also know the club has given me some of the biggest thrills in my life apart from my wife, children, parents and family, my corporate career and friends etc. ( the privelege of being in the grandstand at the G seeing us win 4 premierships over the journey has been a tremendous highlight, it doesnt get much better as a supporter, we get to play finals regularly, and play anzac day every year and regular blockbusters at the G by being a genuine AFL foundation powerhouse.

I have documented those times that were particularly emotional for me as a bomber supporter over the journey in the scum review thread this week of the top 10 I think, 5 occured this year, it has been a rollercoaster, the players have been tremendous, skilful and resilient played for the jumper and kept the red and black flag flying in the depths of despair of a cold and very dark winter and in the face of savage and unprovoked attacks from the media. I would encourage all supporters to put their swords and pitchforks away, bite your tounges, hold your heads high, act with grace and class befitting all essendon supporters, rock up to the home game v tiggers in round 23( put yourself in the place of the innocent players, would they want their loyal supporters to desert them in their hour of need?), cheer loudly, support the players, but above all look to the future, make sure you buy an EFC membership in 2014 and dream of an unprecedented 17th flag next year or in the very near future no doubt, we have outstanding talent on our list, with some gaps that need filling no doubt but 14 wins this year the most for a number of years.. we have made huge strides as a team, and as the Dawks, Cats, etc descend down the ladder we have the opportunity to return to powerhouse status in 2014 and beyond with good decisions by the club and board, guiding us. Please get around the club, above all the the players, and the legend that is Mark "Bomber" thompson and James Hird who have put the clubs interests ahead of their own. they will be counting on your support.

Sorry Scotty but l have plenty of malice in me right now, and most of it is directed at the AFL. l don't care if they fold. l would have liked to see us stand up to those weak bunch of ■■■■■■ and smash them.

As for the game, it is now pretty much meaningless, like a dead rubber in Davis Cup. Players will come out and play to win, but the same week to week motivation won't be there. l wouldn't mind if they all sat down in the centre and refused to move. What can the aFL do, that they haven't already done?

The boys should treat this game as if Hirdy isn’t coming back. Has he confirmed that he wants to come back?
Go out and send a message to the AFL. Smash the Tiges and just let everyone know what might have been. At the siren go and sing the song in the centre square. Hirdy can still go and watch.
If their hearts aint in it then put their hands up and ask not to play. What can we get for tanking? No draft picks?

To say hear people say that this weeks game is meaningless is very dissappointing. This weeks game is Extremely Important. The way we play this game will show how much spirit, guts and fortitude this club has in the face of unrelentless pressure. To see Essendon play anything but relentless, fierce, hard at it football, after the way their coach and football club has been treated, would be disheartening.

Essendon needs to show the AFL and all supporters of the code, we are a proud and honourable Football Club that will never lie down. I want to see Essendon play if their ilfe depended on it and smash Richmond and send a message to the league, that we will be back, ready for next year. Look Out!

Go DONS!!!

I dare say players had an inkling that last weeks game would be meaningless in the grand scheme of things too. Sometimes you play for pride and the love of the club.

I almost wish they stripped all of our points so we could be the first team to win a premiership after finishing on the bottom of the ladder the previous year with 0 points.

Nothing would cap off this year than making a statement and thumping the tigs and letting everyone know what 2014 will be all about.

Will be interesting to see how Richmond line up too. They might rest a few players themselves to get ready for finals, but I think they know we will be pretty unpredictable and they wo'nt be expecting an easy win.

If there's even an inkling of our blokes taking it easy during training this week then bring in kids who will be bursting at the seams to show they deserve to stay on the list.

Yellow and Black is quite a funny read. Apparently Hardwick has asked for no booing of Jobe + all the other rabble you expect from Bitchmond supporters. Getting big heads because they're playing finals. Surely they are charged with the rule 1.6 conduct unbecoming and bringing the game into disrepute for not finishing 9th.

yes Captain you have to admit though that egregious mismanagement by those in the know at the club exposed the players unfairly to unknown risks, mistakes have been made, we put our hand up for lack of oversight, lack of governance process , take the massive hit, and now rebuild for the future . as for the AFL I would be very surprised if Vlad is not moved on very soon, too many disasters under his watch, like many managers in Australia they are "seen to be" good in crisis management and hubris and bluster and bullying but short on strategic vision and governance, everything Vlad does is reactionary, how many tanking cases he refuses to admit with his head in the sand attitude Kreuzer cup, bryce Gibbs cup remember those ?? melbourne tanked but we cant use the word tanking in the charges cos it doesnt exist in the AFL?? the AFL handled the Adam Goodes racial villification case v poorly when strong and decisive management was called for, in the Champions league the club would have been fined massively, banned or forced to play in a locked out stadium with no fans, AFL did nothing just because it was Eddie, pathetic, we have made no progress on this blight on the game in 20 years since the winmar incident , he claims he set up the integrity unit in Feb 2013 AFTER the ACC blackest day in sport, why wasnt it there prior to that if he is a keeper of the integrity of the game he claims to be?, theres the tuck incidents the liberatore, cousins, swan and other magpies allegedly reporting taking illicit drugs in the off season exposing a huge   league loophole on self reporting, the 3 strikes policy is a coverup and joke with complete lack of transparency

If the AFL was really serious about cleaning up drugs in sport there would be a 0 tolerance , but they are more interested in bullying to get their way to justify their own agendas, AFL house leaks to Wilson more than the titanic did after hitting the iceberg , Vlad stated he wanted an open hearing ..well that sounded good but where was it??

of all the sanctions imposed the "standing down from finals" is the most unfair and should be legally challenged, the players have earnt those points fair and square and deserve to play finals surely, interestingly the AFL has not stripped us of points, so leaving themselves wide open to be challenged in court on this point as its is violating their own rules for qualifying for finals, also the EFC members have rights as well the forgotten party here , isnt one of the reasons you buy a membership to see your club play finals, well guess what we qualified so EFC members are disenfranchised , an obstruction of justice has occurred here. EFC members are well within their rights to seek an injunction on the AFL till end of september so that we can play finals for which we have qualified. I need a petition of 50 signatures from EFC members to support this action and will tee up Darren Kane or a commercial litigation firm to maye do it pro bono in the supreme court

if you are interested to join in this class action and litigation please let me know your thoughts

Didn't EFC withdraw themselves form the finals? They way it was worded was as though we stuck our hand up (under duress surely) for the punishment which would mean the AFL aren't entirely responsible for the punishment.

GIve NatRat a game and full licence to go out and belt someone.....

Just bought my tickets!

Yep I want the club, players, everyone to make a big ■■■■ you statement on saturday night to the AFL.

Whether that be a sit out, bringing in players like NLM to just belt to ■■■■ out of ■■■■■, put 18 players in our fwd 50 to make a farce.

It’s a bit like a job interview for Goodwin. I hope it goes well.

With 9th place being bumped up to 8th, Richmond might want to lose so they play Port instead of (likely) Carlton who they lost too a couple of weeks ago.
Will be interesting.

Don't tell me they would consider tanking? Hi Vlad.

The best form of protest that the players can make, IMO, is to go out and play a high intensity and quality game against Richmond. This will show the rest of the comp and the AFL what tough materials the EFC people are made of. Showing how united they are behind the club and its supporters will go a long way to shut our detractors up, who are predicting the demise of the club with players walking out and suing the club etc. etc.

They can take away our finals berth, but they can’t take away our will to win.

GO BOMBERS!!
