Return Fire in Dallas

No. One of the great empires tearing itself apart in front of your eyes. Seeing the shining beacon reduced to a cautionary tale? I care. It's like watching Superman inject himself with kryptonite and lie comatose in a crack house.

That presupposes said great empire was ever together. History would indicate that it wasn’t and still isn’t. Been split along all sorts of lines since 1776. It’s still is.
Not sure about the shining beacon either.

The real question is why are people in the USA more horrified at police being shot than they were at police shooting others for no reason?
That’s the question they should be asking themselves. Some lives are worth more than others, always have been, and that is the problem.

I take your point on what that empire was built on, and consolidated on.
But, no offense, it’s a millennial’s point of view.

We gave as much of a ■■■■ about the blacks that underwrote the country as we did the Mexicans and Puerto Ricans as we did the greyhounds.

You come from a generation that never believed they would see significant nuclear war.
The people who grew up in the forty years prior have a very different view.

But apart from all that, again, 319 million people.
Don’t treat them as one person.

Millenials point of view? What are you talking about? Not sure what generation you think I come from but I can tell you I was studying American History at LaTrobe Uni in the 1970’s as part of my BA with a double major in history.
I have a bit of a clue.

Lol.
My apologies.

Still though, who were you hoping would be the dominant culture in the seventies and eighties then?

The counter culture. The intellectual version with lengthy involved conversations. That was the 70’s. And we thought we could change the world. It was a time of grand ambition.
For me too I was studying Latin American history including Chile and Cuba with inga Clendinen at LaTrobe and that was an eye opener.
I knew little about Socialism, Marxism, Argraian reform and American imperialism but I learnt a lot. And the people I was mixing with were just as enthusiastic as I was. Fascinating times.
Missed the 80’s culture (thank God because it was awful, all those bad perms, shoulder pads, and greed is good ethos) too involved with working, children, playing basketball, studying. I didn’t even like the music. Too many synthesisers being used because people could.
By the time the 90’s came along I had rediscovered punk, thrash rock and all the music I liked in the 70’s. And had time to read and learn again.
But when you look back it was the very late 1960’s and early 1970’s that were pivotal in defining what we were to become as a country later. It really was a time of opportunity and we did think we could change the world.
Nothing like the kids have now. I feel sorry for them. On the one hand the world is their oyster but only if they have the brains and the money. Because they are not going to get it working casually as a barista here or in New York.

You leave Jobe alone.
Hmmmm, shame you checked out. Maybe you could have stopped idealogically sound from turning into politically correct.
But I feel we’re both digressing.

This is no different than your average evening ‘entertainment’ each night on your TV or on the big screen at your multiplex.

I’m sorry for the families involved, but this is normal now. No one is shocked, no one cares. They will move on before the bodies are cold and nothing will change.

Also, give the kids a break.
They’re too busy deciding whether they’re hemi-demi-pan-sexual or not in a world where cis is an insult.
And I’m pretty sure they didn’t ask for that.

This is how people like Donald Trump get popular. “Oh you have a different opinion? It’s wrong!”
“Oh by the way, you’re also racist, sexist, farking anti-animalist, homophobe, anti-trans goon sexual.”
“Also you don’t believe all the ■■■■ that’s fed to you by media? You’re a tin-foil hat moron. You’re also crazy.”
Then someone such as Trump comes along, perhaps says thing that are actually much more extreme than what they believe, but they’re so sick of being called racist by social justice dickheads, that they SUPPORT him. At least someone like him allows them to feel ok about expressing an opinion. Obviously I’m not referring to outright silly genuinely racist beliefs here, but a frustrated population will elect people like this. They’re over it.
Off topic, but it’s relevant to your comment as these farksticks are my generation and it’s embarrassing.

fthdtuhtdujhtdt

You people are way to smat for your own good.

its only going to get worse now. Every cop will have itchy trigger fingers- plus they will want justice/revenge for their fallen officers.

Just a sad state of affairs

IMO that’s why they end up killing so many people there. They would be so fearful of whoever it is killing them, that they ■■■■ themselves and get in first. People are very quick to criticise police, but people need to be considerate of the climate their in.

Exactly. 123 officers killed in the line of duty last year. Where is the hash tag campaign? This is the part of the vicious circle that doesn’t seem to get much mention.

Nah, that’s bullshit.
It’s the US argument.
It’s the Christian argument.

Don’t compare yourself to monsters, or we’ll compare you to monsters.

huh? how is it bullshit? If cops here were being murdered on a regular basis don’t you think they would be more likely to become trigger happy? Don’t you think that if we see more & more home invasions like the one in Essendon earlier this week that people will naturally become more defensive & look to ways to better protect themselves & their homes? Like I said its a vicious circle, trying to make the issue only about blacks being killed by cops ignores the causes & IMHO only adds to the problem.

Spot on.

This might sound like a weird comment to make in this thread, but you (and others posting here) should go and watch the most recent series of South Park. The entire season was a thesis on exactly this point, specifically social justice warriors and the damage that they inadvertently do. Check it out.

Geez you can talk out your backside sometimes.

After watching and reading the coverage of this police shooting, I haven’t seen or heard any condemnation of the shooter himself. None at all. Maybe I’ve missed it, I don’t know.

Okay, I’ve obviously…well firstly offended you and secondly not expressed myself properly, so for both I apologise.
At no point did I mean to label you as anything. In this particular post I was trying to say that I understood the pressures that the latest generation has that others didn’t have to face. I guess it came across as mocking them for it?
In any case I agree with your post completely. The new left scare the crap out of me.

Another week, another FALSE FLAG event.

The new left scare the crap out of me.

I think that’s a common feeling at the moment.

I’ve been what you would consider ‘left’ for all of my life, but I find myself cringing at some of the crap that constitutes ‘left wing ideals’ these days. Sadly, it seems that to have an alternative view point atm, you end lining up with conservative view points. There is an old saying “Show me a young leftie and I’ll show you an old conservative,” so I do very much hope that’s not what’s happening to me.

I guess the left has always been based in idealism and the right in pragmatism, but it seems really defined at the moment. While the left is desperately trying to police and script all public discourse, the hard right is taking over the world.

Sheep bleating loudly while being led to slaughter…

Correct, and the reason for it is because the liberal and BLM crew claim it is justified. If something is justified then condemnation cannot be given.

Yep. There is the feeling that this was kinda ok, coz it’s just the coppers getting a taste of their own medicine.

This is shocking in itself, but the US of A will just carry on.

There’s a difference between condoning something and being resigned to it.
Everyone is horrified by the shootings, and if people are unsurprised that some insane people reacted to something in an insane way that’s a long way from suggesting it was justified.
A very long way.

I’m not getting the feeling that everyone is horrified by the shootings.

CNN interviewed a reverend who helped organise the Dallas demonstration, and not once did he condemn the shooting, when I would have thought the first thing he should have said how he did condemn it and how wrong it was to shoot the police. He was more concerned with saying what he did during the chaos and how it was a peaceful demonstration.

What is not said is very revealing to how people are thinking.

Maybe he didn’t think he needed to verbalise the opinion that murder is wrong.

Edit: and if I were being mean, I’d point out that you have left something out of your assessment there. I don’t know whether you’re unaware of it, so…the thing is, I’m not making any moral judgement based on what you didn’t say.
