Review - Heaved hoed. 2023

A very disappointing result. We copped the bye at the worst possible time. We need to bury sides like Freo but our forwards were not up to it and our centre square presence was almost non-existent for a lot of the night.
Port is shaping as a must win, if we are to play finals in 2023.

They got Darcy back and we lost Draper. We got smashed out of the middle.

Do the maths.

I reckon we’re just not that good. The Melbourne win is the only win of the season where we’ve beaten a top eight side.

did i ever say to stop at those 2?
hepp needs to go, adds no value beyond a few short term markers.
kelly gone
lav, you need to be able to move on
serious questions need to be asked about stringer.
1 of parish and shiel.

Voss was well beaten last VFL game by the delisted Luke Parks, and then the soon to be delisted Lachie Plowman.

He wont be playing any time soon.

They’ve happened continuously, especially in June & July for 23 years, that’s the problem! We are no closer to moving past it

7 losses so far.

2 games tomorrow.

Give Hobbs a 5yr contract extension and whatever bonus incentives he wants.

He’s a Rolls-Royce, A-Grade etc. player in the making. He’s going to be our best player in 12-24 months.

0-7 when playing a team that didn’t have the bye the week before.

his 2 major issue are that hes slow and his disposal sucks, you cannot carry that in AFL footy.

He was probably our best (which is both a positive and a negative all in one go).

I’ve been arguing with half of blitz that we have not really improved this year. Our system and personnel needs massive changes.

The chipping around won’t work in finals, just like it didn’t after quarter time. The opposition just need to man up and our system breaks down.

Again we allowed the opposition far too many inside 50’s and easy transition from backline to forward line.

We are a bottom 8 side who happens to find themselves 6th on the ladder.

Didn’t effect us in the first 15 minutes

Excuses was a complete capitulation after qrt time

I also think Fremantles backline was sensational.

We got a few quick clearances trying stringer in there but our forwards couldnt connect

You don’t think Alex Ferguson or Kevin Sheedy putting the fear of god into their players didn’t influence them to win over games?

So we drop him for who?

Someone who doesn’t apply forward pressure? Or tackle? The exact things we need.

I thought Hepp was top 5 for us on the ground but agree we are too slow there without Hind. he has his faults but had a good past month and that run was sorely missed. I’m over Lav to be honest. Baldwin has his measure and has the strength and foot skills to nullify and create. reckon Lav has battled for a lot longer than many care to admit.

We’re just not quite good enough yet to genuinely capitalise when we have the momentum. Really should’ve been 3 or 4 up after 15 mins but we missed a couple of easy ones and made some bad decisions.

From then on the midfield mix didn’t work and we really didn’t look like we wanted it (other than for 15 mins in the last). Parish, who is a very good footballer, has a bad habit of getting ahead of the play and getting burnt the other way.

We look our most damaging when we can chain it by hands out of the centre and into the hands of a good user but we didn’t get any of that going. Hard to tell from the TV but it also looked like we couldn’t get anyone moving with pace through stoppages or the centre other than for a few minutes here and there. Too often the player kicking inside 50 was on the defensive side and kicking it shallow which was too easy for Freo to pick off.

It will be 9-0 after tomorrow.

Sadly, Dons Port will be the match to break the run.

This is where I disagree.

We very clearly have but games like tonight still show we have the Worsfold/Rutten stink on us.
