In Darwin it’s the start of the dry season. It hasn’t rained for a couple of weeks and the humidity is quite low. It was warm last night but not too unpleasant.
The dogs should recover quite well.
Maybe the AFL should think of scheduling this game in June or July when evenings are cooler.
I’m probably older than you so I have an idea of history. Nobody in any of these pages is suggesting this is the final look of the team. What we are seeing from the first preseason game is willingness to play youth, it proven by the names teams by and large. We have upcoming draft assets and young men grabbing their chance in the seniors. We are beating teams that are presented to us as opportunities, and taking it up to a couple of teams that right now are far superior.
I actually have no idea what alternative would make you happy. Is it that we play the VFL team in its entirety and watch it get hammered by terrible teams? Dump contracted guys and list substandard footballers that wouldn’t get picked up mid season? Go Bailey Melbourne and intentionally throw games?
But seriously, A very good first half, especially the 2nd quarter, we actually punished them for their mistakes.
They were always going to come, they are better even with their injury list that their ladder position suggests.
Once they made that charge I actually thought we controlled the last 4-5 mins well, something we seem to have cleaned up abit in our wins this year. In the past few seasons, we might have dropped that game.
Mind boggling. I once ran into one of the producers of a channel 10 sports show (can’t remember what it was called) and asked who was responsible for selecting the “highlights” of each AFL game. She said it was her job. I asked why she basically just compiled a reel of players taking set shots at goal - this being one of the least exciting aspects of our game - and as we discussed this it became patently obvious to me that she knew nothing at all about the game.
Good reply and happy to discuss, though I’m becoming a bit of a broken record here.
It’s funny you should mention history. I think in 2 years when we’re all speculating on Brad’s imminent sacking we’ll look back on this year as one of those 2021 or 2024 style years where our percentage betrays the fact that we’re bottom 4 but 1/2/3/4 close wins that could easily (should?) have been losses dragged us further up the ladder and thus down the draft. This is what costs our “rebuild.”
On rebuild, it’s pretty clear (to me anyway) that Brad is not doing everything he can to rebuild in the Mitchell/Hawks mould. Someone on here pointed out that a fortnight ago that the only senior player we aren’t playing is Laverde. Every single other player in is forced.
The net effect on a week to week basis is the same, but the effect on a month to month basis (and season to season including trade/FA decisions eg McKay Gresham etc) are not, because when your intentions are not truly for a rebuild, when you have the choice (which he doesn’t currently), you will not choose to be ballsy and go the rebuild.
The treatment of Shiel/Tsatas and SEH (vs Jones) for example are testament to that. I can go back further and cite for example Bryan and Hayes last year and Massimo the year before that. That’s what we’re doing and will continue to do when given the choice.
We are spinning wheels and are still the Chairman of the Middle 6 of the Ladder Committee ™️
