Review the Klan game - ANZAC Day 2023

Think we outplayed collingwood for much of the match and will have them soon enough.

Flagdons

Big deal they ran over us in the last.

We can and will learn to grind it out and stop em

Back the boys in

That’s it. I think the will was there but that was it. Against a team that only fell short against both grand finalists when down at three quarter time last year.

I wouldn’t be casting a disparaging eye over players or coaches or dodoro or Heppell.

The fitness department however…

Wake uo we are already there.

Beat the flag favs last week and led the next best by 5 goals only to be overrun in the last by surge foory and bigger bodies.

Get on us.

ā– ā– ā– ā–  we dont even have our best forward playing

Despite having a heap of the ball he wasn’t hurting us much until the last. It was then a Collingwood team effort that killed us. Listening to Brads presser he knows the problems at least. It also seems if we lose a key back man we are shot ducks and we fall down like a house of cards. It seems our most important player is Langford ! Need goals move him forward. Loose a defender move him back, need to score again move him forward again. If that is our only solution we are in trouble.

I guess we’re in trouble then…

Well to be fair he’s turning into a pretty good player and I was never a believer.

Hard to know where we are at after that game. It seems to me that Scott has clearly got the side working harder - running and tackling for example. This holds us well mostly. However, the midfield still lacks class and it takes a lot of effort to overcome that when you are up against a quality midfield like the Pies.

In the end the Pies superior class came through. I expect that this may be the story of the season. Hard working, but just not good enough against the best when they are at their best. My concern is where the improvement will come in the midfield. Perkins, Hobbs? This years draft picks? I hope so.

Forward line also needs some work - at one stage Pies has something like 15 to 4 intercept marks. Hard to kick winning scores when that is happening.

Langford has become a gun for sure.

just gets his job done more often than not.

Yeh 12 of them were us kicking them to Moore though.

the biggest improvement will come from finally getting rid of dodoro and any of his acolytes and replacing them with a team that actually have what it takes to assemble a champion midfield.

Give it a rest - if we didn’t lose wright we’ve got an awesome stay at home backman. But because we did, his value and role changes and hey fecking presto he swings forward.

That’s what a swing man does, he plugs holes.

It doesn’t expose any weakness, it shows the coaches know how to play the players to their strengths. Same with McGrath staying at half back.

The fact is we have a solution.

Phillips got really hammered. Draper competed hard all day however

There really isn’t any system to Sam Draper is there, he’s really unpredictable and that makes him exciting and watchable, but I really want to see the man come out and beat a team professionally, the best ruckman in the game would’ve taken them apart tonight, need a little more predictability from the fan fave.

Yeh well there’s only one of him and until Wright gets back too many holes.

I’m going to have nightmares of that Collingwood chant and the Sidebottom sealer goal.

Utterly traumatising

Our captain might help!

Forwards seemed to play high up the ground today.

Is that something we implemented to try and stop the pies transition from their D50? Before the game, Scott mentioned that they would need to address that.

Glass half full I’m going to games this year with genuine belief we can win and win on game play and strategy and that’s something we haven’t had for years. Yes our execution today at times was poor but I think we’re ahead of where I initially had us. The pies smalls (because that’s all they had) were what was going to beat us and I do think we missed a trick by not playing at least one of Hind, D’Ambrosio down back for some more run. It was mainly left to McGrath and from an aerial view I had, Hep was way out of position too many times and really offers us nothing with ball in hand
