I was expecting another 6 point win like the WC game so I’m more or less happy with the result. Just once though it would be nice to destroy the opposition.

Merrett held, Durham down on output and we struggled in the middle. Caldwell and Perkins were good but that effort won’t win us finals. We need a good ruck.

Great. But we have a lot of improvement yet. No one can be happy with that performance.

Sure but last year we nearly lost, this year we put the foot down when it counted and won the game. I think we have turned a corner. It was ugly but it was a win.

I did caveat my comment with “yet.”

A truly turned Essendon puts that north team to the sword.

It’s been a good progression, but there is plenty of improvement, including beating these sorts of teams without falling back on excuses.

I’m going to give Hobbs an out because he’s playing in an unfamiliar role and when he gets the ball on the outside he doesn’t have the vision to execute the right decision. I think he’s an ordinary kick but is very effective as a pure inside midfielder. I think he played with great effort and intensity today.
