Review Thread vs Eagles 2023 - How the west was won (by 50 points)

Shout out to the wonderful WA Bombers. You cheered brilliantly and the commentators on many occasions noted how many Essendon fans were in the stands tonight. It really felt like we had a strong following and I’m sure the players really feel it on the field. Perth’s a great Bomber region and tonight you delivered again. Enjoy the win :clap:

I didn’t get to see the game but happy with that result. They had some decent cattle back and we’re always going to show more than last week. And in a weekend full of upsets, bank the 4 points and move on.

Worth remembering that we are missing our entire starting midfield bar Zach Merrett. Will be a huge boost to get one of Shiel, Parish or Setterfield back. Presumably the former will be first.

Enjoyed the win. Didn’t enjoy subscribing to Kayo and realising 720p is the best it gets and drop frames all the time even though my internet speed is excellent.

Finally have a goal kicking midfielder in Hobbs.

Well he is actually kicking goals from a forward rotation. But yes, that clearance and snap was very classy.

It’s a bit of an enigma.
He finished with 13 possies, his taps were waaaaay down, but he was Dominant in the first half.
While Bryan was on with him.

We still haven’t seen his final form.
It’s something to get excited about.
The guy is going to have games of 30 taps, five marks, two goals, four clearances, and 20 possessions at some point.

And Nino wants to drop him, so you know he’s quality.

He also looks to have increased his kicking distance by a couple of metres.

First time in ten years, and only the fourth time in twenty, we have more wins than loses at the traditional half way mark of the season. Wow that’s a long time to be mediocre.

I’ve been critical of Mass, however the last two weeks I think he’s gone ok. I like him much more on the wing.

Mass needs full games I reckon. Getting a quarter a week as the sub isn’t helping him much. Should be starting him and subbing Tippa at this point.

The reason he played well in the first half was his contested marks. They are so important.

Mass has not played a lot of games. He is very young and while he was playing against men before, this is top flight level. (Except for tonights game against a WAFL team) its a big step up . I hope he gets a decent slab of games and another preseason.

I thought the midfield looked especially thin tonight. Need to get a few troops back in there but they’re a while off.

Shiel should be back next week, he’ll make a big difference just by himself. Unless we’ve buggered up his recovery of course.

We definitely need some midfield soldiers back.

The club is being very coy on Shiel so that usually means it is something ■■■■■■■ serious. There is also mystery surrounding a Parish return. Setterfield? Same boat.

Best we can hope for next week might be Shiel.

Eagles are pure hot garbage, but as expected they come out and showed same resistance after last weeks effort.

At the ground it felt like we got dragged into their style of game, which made it scrappy at times. But it never felt like they were a chance.

And in a day of upsets, that was a fair result for us.

That’s my concern too

Hopefully that can put to rest the Bryan erection for the time being.
Who would’ve thought BDB and his team knew better???

I have full faith in Bryan but his time will come

Who else thinks Zac is a chance for the Brownlow? Playing great footy.
