Review thread vs GEEEEELONG 2024

We are 5 from 5 at Marvel so far this year. Maybe if the Suns make the 8 we can request a final there…otherwise we are going to lose if it’s the MCG vs a Vic side or if it’s interstate.

Brent Stanton got to 250.
Merrett is 30 games behind 250. I doubt we’ll be talking about the losses when Merrett’s time comes up.

Enjoyed Hind channeling his inner Trav Colyer and fumbling every single ground ball. Also gave Martin a run for the most “short steps” last night.

Hardly a surprise.

Hind also kicked a great stoppage goal

At least Stanton played in a winning final.

Stanton and Jobe were just lucky enough to debut at the tail end the 2000 era to scrape one as bit players - Stanton with 3 possessions in that 2004 win. They certainly didn’t perform well in big games though and their record is equally as shocking as Heppell’s and Zaka’s

I’m keen for an answer to this, too. Potentially it’s a bit of a myth… I think it was previously the case, but not anymore.

We could have still won but a lot needed to right. To make up the 4 goal gap you expose yourself on the other end so we get blown out.

I really don’t have the enthusiasm for next week. I don’t go to the footy for a lottery of umpiring decisions. What’s the point.

Absolutely, the further you go the less luck matters. Are the lions lucky they’re 7th instead of 13th? One less win isn’t many. Are they unlucky they’re not 3rd? One more win isn’t many. One more game against a team on a bad day or one less game against a team on a good day, that’s not going to get swamped by big numbers over just 15 rounds.

We’re not lucky that we’re not 18th, we’re better than that. We’re not unlucky we’re not 1st, we’re not as good as that. I think luck could have us anywhere from 3rd to 13th pretty easily.

I agree. I think we were fine in the contest. I think our gameplan isn’t working - we either don’t have the forward half talent or there’s a flaw in design. We are getting better at locking the ball in our front half but can’t generate enough scores. We loosen up and our defence falls apart.

Would love to have some large bodied mids of the Cripps, Petracca, Bontompelli, Fyfe, Dangerfield ilk

Plus Sydney by 7 goals
Brisbane by 13 goals before the boys catch a Monday morning flight to Ibiza.

Yes 11 11 1 in 11th place looking good

Our midfield were great.

The backline hasnt found its mojo since Rids came back. Its not settled.

And the forward line has been dysfunctional since Langford missed a week with a hip complaint.

Regardless we were raped by the umpires when it mattered

But we have been a lot better this season.

Im just talking in terms of morale after last years slide from similar.

Sam Durham would like a word

Yes but we have done this also, unsucessfully I might add. The coach needs some kind of pressure gauge, and at some point, if the finals don’t happen, or we make week 1 and it is a EF and lose, over a couple of years, you know 2 EF in a row, 2024 and 25 and lose both - then he is gonski or should be.

If he’s gonski who do we replace him with Hird?

thb I see Brad being around for a long time at least till the final year of his contract

Like Calders courtesy of @dons_thru_n_thru ?

Our midfield is elite and one of the best in the comp.

We are short in the forward line.

Last night was grubby and wet, delivery didnt need to be good we needed much better at the fall of the ball.

And Wright does a good job of bringinf the ball to ground if he can’t mark it
