Review v Brisbane 2024

You mean, if Kelly, Lav, and McGrath hadn’t played, the margin would have been tighter.
But then Lav Kelly and McGrath would have been chics in the stands.

He 100% did and embraced him.

Our backline helped them score.

Based on last night and our swiss cheese list, Hepp needs a new contract. Seriously! Twelve months? Showed real leadership and composure down back among the headless chooks.

So you want us not to continue playing the style of football that Brad Scott has said on multiple occasions gives us the best chance of winning games and that will stand up in finals?

Two more years imo

In part because our midfielders were getting smashed in the clearance with Brisbane’s extra.

I was more disappointed with Redman and see Laverde as a pressing need to replace.

I had a great night out dinner with MRs HOGALF we weee treated like VIPs didn’t even check the scores while out …

Came home watched 1 minute and saw the same spuds doing spudley things which came at no surprise .

Could only agree with dermie assessment of giving the Club a D fail for the year … l

Too many times we try to kick to a player standing still, means two things happen, player gets over run by opposition or the kick if not perfect, will not be marked.

players have to lead to the ball so the kicker has some margin of error in kicking, this is what the best teams do, basic footy skills.

Redman has fallen off a cliff this year. What’s going on there? Bad decision making, lack of effort, undisciplined behaviour. He was a mainstay down back for years, a shining hard arse light. I think maybe his heart is is in SA now and wants to return home. Time will tell.

other clubs have worked out hes a liability with the footy and have amped their pressure up.

McKay didnt play terrible. Daniher didnt do much, but like Also you had redman and Kelly giving the footy to the opposition and Laverde fumbling and being 10+cm shorter than opposition.

I have been saying all year that we are 2 years away from being able to challenge for the top 4. I now think that is hopeful and we may need to go back to go forward. I had a lot of faith in Scott because I thought our biggest issue was our inability to be competitive consistently and our professionalism and Scott would bring that……to a large degree I think he has, the effort is there for the most part……….

My concerns with Scott is selection integrity and faith in older players and ultimately the connection with players……but honestly we have tried, experienced coaches, young inexperienced coaches and none of them have worked. Scott may not be the right coach but he is certainly not the root of the problem.

Talent identification and development of those players has crippled us. The game has shifted, it is more speed of ball movement, dangerous small forwards, bring the ball to ground, press up and have repeat opportunities at goal……the sides that do it best, win at the coalface, get it in quick to an open forward line……our list is not suited to that style of game…we have no quality small forwards

I am not sure if Scott will last. Historically we don’t have patience so it is most likely he will go but I stand by the fact that he ain’t the problem. Our football club is toxic, the board, coteries, players, coaches and football department all have a part to play in this ongoing disaster.

Reading the piece in the Age about Hawthorn and the path they chose to rebuild brought it home for me. They planned to move forward as a united group, with every decision measured against their agreed parameter of is this for our future success and not just for the now. To me, Essendon has never had anyone at the club on the same page and pulling in the same direction. Everyone has an agenda, egos rule (just look at the Dud) and the best interests of the club are irrelevant.

Fix that and we might just start to turn it all around, until then, good luck being a supporter……you have no control over the outcome but you wear all the heartache and pain.

Brisbane kicked erratically but just did enough to win.
they had put cue in rack at 3qtr time and lifted half a percent in last couple of minutes to keep it a 3 goal margin.

My concern always with Dodoro in charge of recruitment was that like Sheedy at the end, he had been there so long and had so much power within the club, he didn’t have to listen to any advice and made headstrong list choices based on his gut feel stereotype of players, rather than on the rapidly evolving game. Hence, we have so many similar types that aren’t the ballsy match winners we need. Great guys, many touted initially by him as ‘future captains’, but ultimately not mentally tough enough to meet the challenges of a very challenging game.

We got hammered the last 2 games LY = delist Snelling, lost Mass.
I guarantee we will delist or trade at least half a dozen this year, if not more. If this doesn’t eventuate, then my negativity next year will leave @Clone_Hirdy @Stallion for dead.

If they put the cue in the rack given the leads they’ve given up in the last quarter this year thats pretty dumb on their end.

an alternative view is that they are fkng abysmal in 4th quarters in general rather than a choice they’re making to ease off
