…and the Aints another “indoor side” got flogged too in a similar fashion.
Imagine what Goldstein would have done to Melbourne’s ‘rucks’ tonight…
My real life is much better than my essington supporting life.
I couldnt give 2 farks who we beat i want double chance sp we have 2 chances at breaking the finals drought
Yeah man, beat the crows and the saints and we’ll all be solidified and prove our worth within the competition
Honestly, just quit your fake enthusiasm. You know we’re sh*t
Melbourne have an atrocious record in the wet before this game so lets not give the boys a pass for the weather
Funnily enough I think we beat them in the wet last year. Beyond that I can’t even recall another wet weather win in the last 5 + years?
Iam probably a harsh critic of Merrett but some of he’s efforts tonight were pretty sub standard.
There was a centre clearance when we started to make a run in the last quarter ball went towards him and he didn’t want to go near it and take some contact instead spoked to the umpire while Melbourne ran away with it
We just shat that away
Yup we ain’t making top 4 for ■■■■
Think we just blew the double chance tonight
Very immature performance - didnt play the conditions well at all. It will be a totally different game under the roof at Marvel next week though. Move on quickly from this one.
We don’t play well when favoured to win. I actually think we would’ve competed better if they had Gawn and Tracca play.
This fella gets it.
Couldn’t have played worse if we tried for all bar the first 10 and last 10 minutes of the game. Fumble after fumble and consistently allowing the Melbourne players to play in front, so when the inevitable hack forward happened they take the mark.
Alternatively on the rare occasions when we did manage to not fumble, we would overpossess through handball (before inevitably fumbling).
Melbourne were cleaner, harder, smarter, more direct and simply wanted it more.
Second position on the ladder up for grabs and we probably end up 7th after tomorrows games.
Its just so bloody frustrating and disappointing.
I think to make the Top 4, only can have 1 more loss for the rest of the season. This why tonight killed that (as I commented earlier) - so have to win the next four, AND THEN somehow either beat Syd or Lions in Brisbane. Utterly no chance!
What tonight conclusively proves is that the game plan of going sideways/backwards, then again and the switch and then do down the other side that the better opposition has time to set up their defensive structure and time to pressure us into eventual rush kick forward for an easy turn over where the opposition has plenty of space as the race through the corridor and kick the ball, unpressured to a forward in acres of space for an easy goal.
We can get away with the game plan against lesser sides who don’t pressure as much but it fails against the better sides which is why our record against the Top 8 is so abysmal and yet so good against the teams outside the Top 8 - or at least good enough to just beat them. Which is why we have the 6th worst percentage in the competition.
When the game was all over, we finally played with dare and quicker direct ball movement and the result spoke for itself - but it was too little, too late.
As the Top 8 is right now we are 0-5 having yet to play Freo or Brisbane. Quite frankly, that is why we are in Top 8 because we have played plenty of those teams for a 10-1-1 record.
We have less a player personnel issue than we have a gameplan issue - you could put better players in our side but if we keep going slow sidewards/backwards from defence before going forwards slowly and out wide, then those better players won’t make a difference.
I want us to win a final this year and finishing top 4 gives us 2 cracks
He might want to learn to hit targets before he leaves then
Turning point was the rubbish non mark to Jones. They rightfully pay that mark, he converts and we were out to a 3 goal lead. How that wasn’t paid absolutely astounded me…… Especially when the umpiring is better than it has even been.
