The giant was only “sleeping” because it was in a coma after being king-hit by the AFL then kept tranquilized by its imposed sanctions and the worst coach in EFC history.
Been a while since Ive heard the whole top deck of the stadium chanting like a couple of times last night, usually its us copping it against Collingwood.
Its a proper flex when you get it going and its an away game.
Was a great night and might become an ongoing fixture?
I also like the fact that the game started a little earlier as well - 7.10pm instead of 7.40 - easier to bring the kids - doesn’t make it a late night…and that was WITH about half all train lines being replaced by busses…
Having the premiership cups at the ground, where you can get photos etc… was a really great touch as well, and a bouncy castle / disco outside of Gate 2…really great atmosphere.
Just watched On TheCouch. There are some very interesting statistics about our current game style. We are playing a very uncontested low pressure game but yet are holding up in defence. We are conceding the most inside 50s from our attacking 50.
I do suspect a lot of this has to do with having no Parish, Setterfield and to a lesser extend Shiel. We have been forced to change how we play. No way our ball skills would have allowed this a few years ago but most of our young players are great by foot. Fingers crossed we get the balance right as we get these players back and move towards the pointy end of the season.
Great post.
I see that too. It’s not just in the last quarter, but also earlier in the games.
We look inside, there is an option there, but don’t take it and go a safer one out to the wing. We also don’t switch to the other side of the ground when we have numbers out there.
We do have some set plays at times. Some are called from the coaches box, but the backline and midfield are empowered to communicate with each other and make the call whether to take on more risk. It’s not an individual choice, but a choice by a group of players as they need to set up behind the ball just in case it doesn’t quite go as well as expected.
That’ll be our next phase of team development. To take on more risk.
I watched it aswell, I think Brad has developed a game plan that suits our current list but is willing to adjust depending on the players he has at his disposal.
Such a contrast to Truck trying to implement a Richmond game plan and Woosha before that having no game plan.
