Review vs FCFC, King’s Birthday Eve 2023

That 3rd qtr opening blitz reminded me a lot of the last eight minutes of the 3rd qtr of the 2021 Grand Final where the Dees devastatingly finished that game there and then.

The clean centre bounce clearances, the chain of handballs, the give and gets from Red dog running through the centre and the precision like delivery into the F50 were just a sight to behold. Fark Carlton were just reduced to spectators like the rest of us. They just couldn’t lay a hand on our guys during this period.

It was just some of the cleanest and pure footy anybody could wish to see…farkin’ magnificent.

caldwell gets the ball moving with such velocity for not an overly fast player.

A couple of years ago when the Scum won against us I was sitting next to this Scum fan kid and his dad. The kid was about 10yo and he kept yelling out “YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE SAADY”, which was just annoying the bejesus out of me. As I rode my bike home from the ground on Sunday night I smiled when I remembered that boy’s smug face and imagined the little tears that would be forming in his sad little eyes as he realised that no, in fact Adam made the wrong choice and yes, life as a Carlton supporter will be miserable for a long long time.

It’s just a shame about Anzac Day - otherwise it would almost be a perfect season so far…

The loss and learnings we had to have.

Edit…cue “Coll Lover”

It didn’t go entirely our way.
The ‘front on contact’ against Guelfi against Saad in a marking contest was ridiculous, and the call against advantage when there was no break in play and Martin was away was ridiculous.

The Martin no advantage call was really bad but we got the Phillips call instead.

The guelfi one i think they called a hold, hard to tell. He didn’t seem outraged out surprised but it is rare to see a hold called against the man in getting

This isn’t about Essendon, but a push in the back should be paid every single time.
It’s against the rules!
And it should be especially paid for the man who has worked his way to the front.
It should be especially paid when the man in front is in the air and cannot push back against it.
It should be especially paid when the person behind is so stupid that they put two palms against their opponents’ back.
They have shoulders.
They have forearms.
They deserve a free against them for being a crap defender, and that goes for Essendon players, too.

And if the man in front is pushing back on you, wrap your arm around the front of them and take the mark, and laugh at him on the ground.

Im always amazed at some of the fantastic analytical comments from blitzers, in relation to game play and and tactics. Always delivered articulately and intelligently.

I personally, dont have the acumen or knowledge to contribute at such a highly thought provoking level.

But I can offer this:

Lick my skids Carlscum, you steaming pile of ■■■■.

i agree 100%. and that’s how it got interpreted last year. i don’t know why they abandoned the strict hand in the back interpretation

I can just about cop using hands to hold your ground.
I don’t agree with it. You can use your shoulder or arms. But I can cop it.
But the moment there’s forward movement from the defender’s hands…that’s a free kick.
Pure and simple.

It’s what the rule is for!
Guy going for the ball is pushed out of the contest by guy NOT going for the ball.

Jeese he got him good, that zerret/cincotta tackle gif has got to be added to the lonergan tackle/ murphy gifs of yore surely

It’ll never be Lonergan.

Never before has a team been buried into the turf so synchronistically as that player was.

Or since.

i still don’t understand why they, and sections of the media, got so outraged by that tackle.

True it will never be, my point was more the zerret one can be added to the catalogue of FC Hall o’ famers

Oh, hell yeah.
I don’t know why we don’t have extended highlights of important moments in history in every pre-game.
Added to current moments.

Seems an absolute no-brainer to me.

It ■■■■■■ me off how Tom Hawkins did it at boundary throw ins for pretty much the entire 2022 season and all we heard from commentators was how strong and clever he is.

Honestly, it’s a farcical competition with farcical rules made by a farcical laws of the game committee, farcically enforced by a collection of perpetually perplexed whistleblowers.

I still want to win though.

Because of the result? Didn’t he break his collarbone?
