So, here is another post that is more than a bit hard to write. Another one I wish wasn’t writing.
Last night I received a message from Nick that I didn’t really like the sound of. So after a brief chat I arranged to go up and see him this morning. When I arrived the nurses were there setting up his painkiller regime, and instructing his wife on how to give the drugs if they were not available. He was his usual good natured self, but had deteriorated from when I last saw him on the weekend. He is now bedridden, and no longer even has the strength to sit up. Nick and I talk quite openly and honestly, and I asked him about Peter Mac; he said he didn’t think he was going to get there. I asked him how long he had left, and he said the doctors said a week, maybe two. He says longer. We went on to discuss all sorts of things, and he is at peace with the world, and happy with what he has achieved in life. He is resigned to how things are, and seemingly ready to move on. I have told him that I will be visiting every couple of days. I hope the doctors are wrong and I have to do that for a very long time. I so wish things were different. Nick is a very fine man.
The money raised for Nick’s further treatment will now be used to support his wife and children during what will be a very rough and unpleasant time.
If there is anything more to say I will post it here.
Donated. Sending best wishes, positive thoughts, and general f&$k cancer vibes from America. C’mon NickyD you are a fighter and we are right behind you!
And, thank you 'boot for setting this up.
Donated, all the very best in your recovery. Although we’ve never met I’ve enjoyed reading your posts for a very long time (formally Gaya).
I have 3 little kids aged between 6years and nine months and cannot begin to imagine how challenging things are for you, your wife and children. Strength and goodwill to you all.
Donated, all the best mate!
I know people at Peter Mac, if strings are need to be pulled !
Gee thats tough! All the best
Done. Soldier on, Nicky.
Reboot - you are a quality human being and an even better friend. Well done, Sir.
Just noticed this. I’m in.
mdso, the mail just arrived, and in it was your generous donation to nickyd’s fighting fund. Thank you very much, and it will be added to the total as soon as possible.
I was thinking about Nickyd's situation this morning.I don't know him, but have enjoyed and benefited from his posts over the years.19 years ago our eldest daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia and we spent 2 yrs 2 months travelling back and forward to Sydney for her treatment. She is fine now and living a full life. We received a lot of support from the community in many ways. It all helped.
Many people’s lives are touched with cancer in many ways. Many have a story.
Many have financially supported Nickyd’s, fund, soma are not in a position too, which is fine.
In order to provide Nickyd’s with some minor ongoing support I am going to change the words on my profile to #standingwithNickyd.
Whenever he checks up on Blitz during his treatment, he might see a few of these and know he is being thought of.
Anyone wanting to follow my lead is welcome to.

Good idea!
props to reboot for liking every single post in this thread ;)remember when likes were a finite commodity?
reboot doesn’t.
Infinite likes love is what thread has, and so it should be.

No seriously he’d kill me. Plus it’s too long.
I've just had go nickyd as mine for a few days. I also wanted to add "you're so fine you're so fine you blow my mind" but he wouldn't have any of it for some reason.
That’s cool. There’s room for individual expression…
