not so bad we had a few that took too long to get going. when we did we matched them. weve lost 2 important players now for a while so hopefully find some decent ins from the vfl. proud of the effort.

Hawks were always the one team to abuse our inability to defend C2C goals.

The biggest difference between the teams tonight was the relative ease with which the Dawks kicked goals, contrasted against our grinding goals out. They always had an answer. The game was lost in the first quarter with our inability to defend.

If we don’t look at silver linings and just expect to be belted every week then what’s the ■■■■■■■ point of even watching to begin with

one could ask, what’s the point of watching, if you’re going to point out silver linings, that lead to similar results as last year ?

I wasn’t expecting a belting, but i’d at least hoped to see something vaguely different to how last year was, or the previous 20. but luckily we have key metrics that say we did well, apparently.

They are a class above us. Abd they were tougher. It was men against boys when it mattered. Perhaps Hawks took foot off pedal a bit? I think we’re a mile off it still tbh.

In the end it came down to two factors.

Our disposal wasn’t good enough.

Our back six wasn’t good enough.

If you can’t hit a teammate by hand or by foot you are pretty much fried.

In the end it was too easy for Hawthorn to kick goals. That’s about it.

Some positives
Roberts I thought just got better and better.
Hobbs and Perkins found some ball in the second half.
Thought Jones really shows signs on a wing
Caldwell, Durham and Merrett fantastic.
Some bads
Shiel, McGrath, McKay, Reid, Prior, basically our entire backline was diabolical

Agree with this. Our backline which actually has probably the most senior players in it were really poor.

Thought our pressure was alright through the midfield and forward line. Midfield and rucks won the battle. Forward line did what they could. Backline need to cop it this week. Reid I cut some slack as he needs game time and will get used to the speed of the game but the others made some extremely basic errors.

Obviously Caldwell was great, but I thought Draper was very good against a dominant ruckmen in Meek, and I thought Harry Jones played his role well.
