Round 1 2025 Review

Enjoy teams daring McGrath to play on from a kick out every week. They guard the corridor and give him the extra 20m down the boundary because he kicks chaos balls to the forward flank every time.

Honestly, you missed a good half from us.
Only lack of polish stopped us giving them a scare.

They would have responded and won in all likelihood, but we were plucky.

I say this to you ad nauseum and you don’t listen.
If you are not able to acknowledge the opposition, you will never understand why we are losing and you’ll always think it’s effort based.
It most certainly wasn’t effort tonight !

Been saying it all week that hes no good gets beaten badly in ruck contests

At least we will beat Adelaide and North this season. Blockbuster games not so much.

I accept this team is learning and young. I accept Hawthorn were the better team. I don’t accept the never ending mediocrity. I don’t accept the never ending same mistakes of being unable to lower the eyes inside 50, unable to take a mark inside anywhere on the field, being slow.

Never ends.

BUT, it’s OKAY. Brad Scott has been renewed an extra year for FUCKEN NOTHING.

Rest well boys and girls. Same circus is never ending. We’re in hell.

I hate hawthorn more than i care to mnetion but we weren’t too far off. Many negatives but this ground can be made up.

Meek just seemed to keep them moving forward. Bryan didn’t.

This is an accurate summation and was confirmed for me by a mate who does a bit of talent spotting for the Dawks, it is their # 1 priority in a new recruit.

I was nervous at half time being 35 odd points down thinking this is the tipping point…and I did think we’d get belted by 70 odd points or more we were pretty awful in the first half. Second half response was much better.

Provided a bit of spark and zip when he came on.

There was some shocking moments tonight that hurt us badly.
That Martin kick back into their forward line.
Those McGrath and sheil turnovers were shocking.
Some of Langford efforts were sub par especially one on the wing he just walked along while hawks players streamed past him.

Whatever

Eh tried in patches in the second half the margin didnt really change

If they actualky went down by 10-15 points i would.be ok

Sick of hearing about it being the coaches fault. The stats suggest we were the better side but it didn’t look like that live. Composure and skill, was all we needed, we had more of the footy and won more of it in the contest, but the same players coughed it up or f$&ked it up. McGrath, Redman! The Dud screwed us and we will be paying for it for at least 2 more years.

Our future is: Caldwell, Durham, Duursma, Kako, Caddy, Martin, Roberts…jury is out on Jones, Perkins, Hobbs, Bryan, Tsatis, Reid

Apart from Merrett , Langford (although he looked very soft in the contest tonight) and Draper, I would say that no other over 25 on our list would make it onto another AFL list. They are not leaders, they are not A grade and they have had more than enough chances to alter this clubs fortunes going forward.

The road ahead is long and Rosa has a lot of work to do to provide a list that not only wants the contest but can execute when in the heat of battle.

He still ended up with 18 touches in just 57% of TOG.

Thoughts:

  • Tsatas deserved to be in the first centre bounce. Not Redman.

  • We went in young and inexperienced. I think that cost us early by getting sucked in too close at the wrong times and letting their system/zone/setup move the ball forward. But overall our senior players cost us the most. Headlined by McGrath, Shiel and McKay. Include Draper whose smart arse, try hard things gave them the ball back at least five times.

  • just like last year, we went inside fifty a lot, but led to the pocket a lot. Couldn’t capitalise in the third because we never had the footy in front of goal.

  • not having a full forward is going to hurt us. ‘Where will the goals come from’ is real.

  • forward line was better when Gresham came on. Probably need him and Kako working in tandem.

  • Perkins didn’t show much that indicates he’s turned the corner. Yeah yeah better in the second half. But that set shot in the second, Hollywood nonsense.

  • I’m not sure what Roberts is. Hasn’t convinced me and I just don’t know where he plays. Not forward, not lockdown defender, not wing, not a transition type.

  • Reid. I’ll back him, but in his 10 games he hasn’t really shown anything, maybe that’s harsh.

  • Caldwell was good. Tsatas showed a little bit, but the kicking is a concern still.

  • Merrett two awesome captains goals. Did his normal stuff. But, tonight and the practice games, were there a few signs of age? I hope not.

  • Edwards in for Langford. Redman back for Ridley. Probably Setterfield in.
