What surprised me most was the poor quality of Martin’s disposals.
He has always been a poor kick to be honest
■■■■ you Jon Ralph campaigning for Scrimshaw not to get rubbed out.
■■■■■■■■ went with a round arm and a clear intention to ‘get him’. It wasn’t a normal tackle. It was crude and he concussed a man. Two weeks for mine.
The Dud just went for nice blokes……looking at his recruiting, you can see no obvious pattern
We still don’t do the basics well. The amount of times the players manned the mark with their arms by their side was extraordinary. When we applied man on man defense the hawks were often able to find a player because at least one player would drop off their intensity. Often it was the same names.
You never see things like that from the great teams. Everyone is committed to every basic act. We have a long way to go.
How bad is langfords hammy?
I wont be turning up next week no way
We let Ambrosio go over one year extension and place McGrath in the leadership group and give him a whopping contract.
We give Brad Scott an extension days before round 1
We pay McKay 800k because apparently their was a demand on key backman.
Fold the club for finals under Scott, we need a ruthless coach to bring out a ruthless team and delist soft players whom create a Essendon is a nice team.
I thought we obviously started slow, and let them jump us. No idea if that was because we didn’t play last week. But after quarter time I thought we were the better team, especially if not for the umpires and Brad’s team selections. Pretty diabolical were:
- our first quarter
- The umpires. I think we were down (net) three goals from terrible decisions in one 50m zone or the other in Q2.
- team selections. Once again we went in too tall. We all knew they had small fast forwards, how didn’t EFC? And then we played Redman outside defence.
- MCG surface. I’m not sure if there was a right move there as I suspect the boots to play the boundary/pocket weren’t what to wear through the middle of the ground.
- our defensive running. Far too often often we didn’t follow our men.
Obviously the two injuries sucked as well.
That’s what playing the kids looks like, we’re not a basket case we’re going to be competitive but I expect a good twenty minutes from the opposition each week will be enough to put us away
We could have gone into this week with Stringer and 2MP forward, Draper and Sheil in the centre and not played Ried(because we were too tall down back).
Instead we’re playing Caddy, Jones and retooled Draper forward. Bryan gets first Ruck with Tsatas and Hobbs finally getting on ball time. Reid plays at the expense of balance. Kako played and Sheil shunted to a flank.
So we’re finally playing our kids, but not as token sub role but in the key roles they need to develop in. Of course they will make mistakes, get beaten and have lapses in concentration, but that’s part of it.
We need to pump 50 games into them in these roles so they can lead alongside Caldwell and Durham what’s hopefully the beginning of a good side. We’re still a good 6 players short that we need to find over the next couple of years too.
That’s what a lot of people are saying and in a sense it’s true, but it’s misleading. We could not string together a chain of possession all night and there wouldn’t have been more than three occasions in the entire game where we executed an organised and efficient attack.
Our goals were all scrambled or came from a flash of individual brilliance.
Our skills are diabolical, as are our tactics.
Hawthorn blew us away in the first quarter. You could say that we fought back strongly, but the truth is that Hawthorn just held us at arm’s length and scored a goal or two with ease each time we edged a little closer.
At least two appalling kicks in the first quarter that were costly. Foolish play on in front of Sicily. Got heaps of it because he is athletic and probably quite fit, but he just has limitations.
Or has mini forwards jump into him for marks too, ouch, poor Bryan he is a bit one trick
We won:
Contested possessions
Clearances
Inside 50 (plus 10)
Possessions
Had one less scoring shot
But the frees were 23-17 to the Hawks and they got gifted 4-5 goals
Overrated as fark on here we need to find another draper
We need a Gawn
Tsatsas and Hobbs played 60 and 50 percent game time . Hard to get any continuity with that
Merrett by a furlong to Caldwell and Durham neck and neck, half a length back to Martin then an entire Melbourne cup back to the next best player……….the lack of A Grade talent on this list is astonishing!
5 goals directly from frees. There is your margin
Coach has no imagination, if something isn’t working, he hopes it will change.
Reid or McKay forward may have changed the game, but no.
Especially, when Langford went down.
Gresham turned the game; but, that only happened due to Ridley’s “ACCIDENTAL” injury.
Yeah just saw that. Not as bad as I first thought for both of them.
