Round 22 vs Richmond - Changes & Preview

Only played ~50% match time last week so clearly hampered to an extent.

Haven’t heard anything.

Heres something interesting from the AFL:

Essendon should use Jake Stringer through the middle more often. Of the eight players to attend more than 100 centre bounces for Essendon this year, Stringer’s positive clearance differential of 20.9 per cent is far and away the best at the club.

Big preseason coming up for Jakey, but maybe this is an adjustment we can make for the Richmond game after all, this game is a virtual grand final for us.

Whispers that Jack might be out also.

Did you just make that up or legit?

the workplace is particularly onerous today.

So definitely without Prestia and Lambert. Unconfirmed but potentially without Cotchin.
That’s half their starting midfield. Lot of heavy lifting to be done by Dusty and Edwards.

This leaves them vulnerable from an inside grunt point of view. Wont necessarily effect their greatest strength being their forward pressure.

Presents as an opportunity to dominate the clearances if we bring the right intensity, especially in light of how our clearance work has been in the last couple of months. Win it forward and deny Richmond time in forward half which is their bread and butter.

Seems appropriate really for Tigers strategy

Rest some players this week. Get them back for lower intensity game next week than against us. Week off again for all. Then finals.

Will still be Tigers fringe players desperate for a finals spot so plenty on the game for them.

They were taking something else full strength!

Agree. Prestia, Lambert and Cotchin out would be massive for us. Other than Dusty they are the engine room of Richmond’s midfield.

  • Disposals: Prestia #2, Lambert #3, Cotchin #4
  • Effective Disposals: Lambert #1, Prestia #2, Cotchin #9
  • Handballs: Lambert #1, Cotchin #3, Prestia #4
  • Contested Possessions: Cotchin #2, Prestia #3, Lambert #6
  • Centre Clearances: Cotchin #2, Prestia #3
  • Ground ball gets: Cotchin #1, Prestia #3,

Prestia has only played 10 for the season so Richmond have won without him. Lambert’s a big out. Cotchin, if true, big as well. Helps Essendon a bit but they’re down on running power (Fantasia, Saad, Guelfi, - reckon Goddard gets up) + Hooker unlikely doesn’t help.

Of course it ■■■■■■ is. They’ll be in full conservative management mode as they well should be. Most of their best players have barely missed a handful of games in 2 years and they’re two weeks out from a finals series where they’re heavily favoured to go all the way. Top two sewn up, potentially heavy training block in prep for the finals. If it was me I’d be resting half the damn side this week.

The stakes are even higher for me, I’m going to the RFC Presidents dinner (it’s a work-perk thing) beforehand and then watching it as their guest.

At least since we aren’t expected to win, a loss won’t be terrible, but how good will it be if we win?
