Round 24 vs Suns 2025 - was round O

I live in the north west.
BOM cyclone tracking forecasts are pretty accurate these days from 2 to 3 days out.
Timeframe may change a bit but track unlikely to alter much.
Alfred Only a Cat 2 but can still pack a punch.
Expect trees down, powerlines, the odd roof might come off near to where the eye crosses.
Likely landfall Thursday night or Friday, just north of Brisbane.
Does the AFL realise that when the cyclone is imminent and for sometime after that a curfew will be in place? Everyone is hunkered down.
The only people out and about are SES and Police. Airports will be closed. No public transport. The last thing the emergency services and Police need is a big footy game the next day.
It is foolhardy to go ahead.
Even the best case scenario and it hits further north and Gold Coast only gets the edge of the system, as the system crosses it breaks up and the rain is widespread. The match will be swampy and a ■■■■ spectacle anyway. Isn’t the point of zero round to showcase the game?
Make the call and move it to Melbourne.

I’ve backed us to win a while ago at $3 - I wonder if the game is moved if my bet will still stand…?? Suns currently heavy favourites at $1.47 but those odds would just about flip if the game is played in Melbourne…

They are huge storms with lots of rain and destructive winds.
Also unpredictable. A cat1 cyclone a few years ago was a direct hit on Darwin and blew down hundreds of trees. Streets were blocked by fallen trees and residents had to wait until they were cleared before being able to get out and about.
Post cyclone people in Brisbane might have more to than go to the footy.

I was watching and marvelling at the huge swell in Surfers yesterday. This morning is sunny and calm. The calm before the storm as Alfred likely starts his course to us later tonight. From tomorrow, it’s hold onto your hats! Oh, and there’s a footy game on Saturday, I nearly forgot about in all the preparations and cyclone watch up here.

I sense the folk down south are understandably a little blasé about what’s going on in SEQ.

Those travelling up here might need to ensure they have their canoe booked on the Nerang and consider possibly not being able to get to the ground if roads are cut off due to flooding / debris. It’s a cyclone after all. Abd possibly being stuck and unable to depart the city due to closures or floods. That is, are you really sure you should be coming up here?

System forecast to make landfall in Brisbane’s northern suburbs

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is now forecast to make landfall in Brisbane’s northern suburbs, with the worst impacts to be felt to the south of the system, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

It was upgraded to a category 2 overnight and is likely to maintain that intensity as it approaches the coast.

Also suggests falls of 500-700mm in GC.

If that happens, suspect our game will be abandoned because ground will be deemed unsafe for play.

500-700???

The south side of the system will bring more rain than the north side.
The entire Gold Coast area is very low lying so inundation seems high probable. Even if the ground is okay, I’m not sure how people will get there.
As for the Thursday night game, that’s surely a fantasy now.

The airports will be shut before then so unless players are arriving on a bus good luck.
Virgin and Qantas have already started blocking flights and I honestly can’t see this going ahead

Move it to Melbourne! I’m free Saturday.

Not possible to play on Sunday due to bargaining agreement with 5 day breaks. Morris should know better.

Just move the game to the Melbourne or don’t play it at all.
