Footscray v fark carlton will be good viewing, especially if blues lose again.
I might make the trek down for Hawks v GWS Saturday night.

Carlton finish bottom four and have no first rounder.
They might get desprate and trade Sam Walsh as a pre agent so they can get a first rounder in

Lions v Cats a good yes for both. Brisbane have really only just been going, as most premiership sides tend to do, they play in fits and bursts and do enough to get the job done, but by no means have they been absolutely at the races. The Cats were stunned by the Saints last Saturday night at Marvel. Wouldn’t want to slip to 1-2 with the Dees, Adelaide (away) and the Hawks Easter Monday their next 3 games.
Anyone else find the notion of these early byes ludicrous? The season has barely begun and teams are already getting a rest. I would prefer a single bye in the middle of the season, spread over two weeks. This fixture is a total mess.

Teams still get that mid season bye, and I don’t disagree that that one could all be done in one hit, but these early season byes are just for the teams who featured in Opening Round/Round Zero plus Essendon and Gold Coast who were supposed to but couldn’t.
If those teams don’t have a bye then they’d be playing an additional match.
Opening round is ludicrous.
Just schedule home games for the Queensland and NSW teams in prime time slots and have the whole comp play in a normal round 1.

It’s so dumb
Opening round this season was nonsensical, put another way opening round was for only 4 teams, when all teams should have been involved.
If i was going to make Opening Round happen I’d be going for:
Grand Final rematch on the Thursday Night at the home of the premiers
All NSW and QLD teams at home to a big drawing Vic Club.
Rest as normal

Yeah you won’t get me disagreeing with you on that. But it’s there and so that explains the drip feeding of byes that we’re seeing early in the season that’s unrelated to the mid season ones.

Thurs Night
Friday Night are the best games from qld and nsw. Gives the afl that prime time slot for the northern states(and is FTA).
Have two Derbies. Brisbane v Suns and GWS v Sydney.
They are both ripping contests now.
Saturday, Sunday the rest of the comp play.

I think hyping up the opening of the year in NSW and QLD is a good one. Especially if they are playing each other and it draws a crowd. Just doesn’t need to be a seperate round.
I mean what gets people talking more about footy in rugby heartland than say the swans fan and their gws supporting neighbour going to the game?
Or ditto Brisbane vs Suns?
Then Saturday arvo at the G with some big vic teams playing. Perfect.(hopefully us)
I’d leave the grand final rematch for later in the year when there’s a dead spot in the fixture.
