Rugby Union

And?
The Rebels should have never been in the comp in the first place. They were introduced for the wrong reason and have been a drain of money from the start. Australia can’t sustain 5 Super Rigby teams and it was pure stupidity to try. The Rebels do deserve a spot ahead of the Force though

Maybe the private model isn’t sustainable in Australian spectator sports.

Rebels were bleeding money when Rugby Victoria controlled them.
Rugby Victoria failed in its obligations to submit annual reports for 6 years which is also a massive failure.
Just been a poorly run franchise right from the start and has been plagued by troubles and dramas

What’s wrong with the force? I don’t know much about it but thought they were popular enough and rugby has a decent following there.

PNG has little chance of qualifying in Rugby Olympics, a tough Oceana pool in which Pacific Islands Samoa and Fiji have qualified for the Paris Olympics.
However, its Women’s Rugby Sevens has qualified.
Australia has a continuing modest annual funding program for grassroots Rugby in PNG, where League is the national sport. It’s directed at gender and disability inclusion. Perhaps it’s contributed to the PNG Women’s Rugby Sevens qualification.

Last March 1 the Melbourne Rebels beat the Western Force 48-34 at AAMI Park. That’s what’s wrong…

its not really sustainable anywhere

no billionaire team owner became a billionaire by owning a team

Gina did anticipate a return on her money when she bought Swimming Australia.

As to the purchase of some soccer clubs by some Middle East billionaires there is a sportwashing value as well as the income earned from branching out into sport linked education qualifications for rich kids , another form of merch.

The IPL?

Once again it’s the mighty Brumbies showing the other pathetic Australian teams how it’s done

Happy with the beginning of the Razor era. Looked solid. Had structure and not relying purely on natural talent. The northern hemisphere teams come here as settled teams whilst we’re still finding our feet.

Worth noting Schmidt has the Wallabies looking ok as well early

Wallabies win against Wales.

As they should. Looked shaky at times but also looked like they had a plan. Some good young players showing up. I think they’ll be right back up there in the next couple of years

It was a positive display from a Wallabies outfit that have been very disappointing for a long time.

Least we looked more organised.
Welsh weren’t good so expect they’ll be better in Melbourne … but Joe I reckon will restore some good rugby back into these Wallabies.

That Tom Wright try was a beaut.

Schmidt will get the best out of the players he has. Quality coach.

Well … scuttling into this thread where there’s a bit more good news.

Another win for the Wallabies 36-28 vs Wales tonight.
Not seen the whole match and its a touring Welsh side not exactly top drawer these days…

But its another win
Keep rebuilding us Joe :rugby_football::kangaroo:

There is a future for RU in Australia.
As Pacific Islands progressively submerge under the Pacific waves, climate refugees will be accepted by Australia. They will be able to earn big money for a few years playing which ever flavour of Rugby they choose.

Without that lifeline, it hard to see the ARU surviving in Australia especially if the ARL takes the best players from that cohort.
