He’s also “Japanese Eddie Jones,” via his mother.
Harsh but fair assessment from Dawson.
Was an afternoon spent in SW London with over 80K rugby lovers I’d rather forget. Lads looked and played jaded, too many handling errors and England could’ve won by more. We were missing a few but just never built momentum all afternoon.
Watching the Irish v ABs in Chicago on the box later showed just how the far the Wallabies are off it still.
The Wallabies are pretty ![]()
Just like they always are.
They’re struggling alright @barry_day .After that bright win in Jo’berg near as three months ago, they’re looking pretty done for this year. Down in confidence, verve and look out on their feet come the final 20mins or so in these NH Tests.
Only saw the last 30mins live, basically from when Carter-Gordon swooped on that loose ball from Harry Wilson (not knocked on apparently, cough…cough) and crossed over. But then the rot set in. Maybe it was me tuning in
. Even with ball in hand and sharp passing there was no true width and speed at the line. Narrow and easy to defend, and turned over a few times too many too. And in a flourish the Italians (def no pushovers any longer) produce two top tries to win well.
Upsides?
. Carter-Gordon at fly half return (think he’s now done a quad, bloody hell)
. McReight and Hooper
. Our pack (looked to scrum OK, stood firm)
On to Ireland .. oh, now there’s an easy visit awaiting our boys.
Awful .. completely whacked by Ireland this evening.
46-19. I am in mourning.
No point championing certain players .. we weren’t anywhere near good enough. Depressed.
A sad state of affairs.
How’s John Eales travelling these days? Gir the good of his country he should pull the boots on again.
48-33 in Paris this evening.
Wallabies brave but not quite good enough. Which is no shame given the French depth and talent on tap.
It’ll go down as a bit of a disaster of a tour this, beaten by all NH opponents but it really hasn’t been. The fight we delivered and the effort by a team leg weary by a long season in Paris filled me with a bit of joy .. and hope.
Tonight .. Angus Bell was excellent until he had to hobble off.Frost was our best .. always there, always tall. And Len Ikitau is imho a future skipper. He keeps breaking the line and is fearless. Add our top draw back row and injured Tom Wright and Noah Lolesio .. we’re really not that far off.
Razor fired. Hope they bring in Schmidt
Japan v USA in Adelaide…
I anticipate a sea of red, white and no other colour.
Meanwhile, up here in the NH, its Six Nations time already. France v Ireland in the pouring rain is the opener. Should be interesting but expect the French prevail tonight.
The England v Wales on the weekend though might be more interesting than you’d expect. Rees-Zammit is back at FB for the Welsh and they’ll be running it at every opportunity is the oil. It’s their only chance tbh given the power of England these days. But neither match will be boring. ![]()
Super rugby from Scotland this afternoon in this Calcutta Cup Six Nations clash v England. Scots who got beat by Italy last week won it proper well, and from the first minute to last .. 31-20 with 4 tries to 2. Really worth a watch. Losing Arundell twice with yellows never helps .. and Murrayfield a hard place to go for any side.
But right now .. Edinburgh a sea of happy Scots.
