Agreed. I know Melb isn’t a big rugby town but to schedule this game against the GF, just after a really good Lions tour, is just madness.

NZ and world rugby couldn’t give 2 tosses about a code played seriously in one country only. They have scheduled it for the date that suits NZ spectators and viewers the best
Which is why rugby will never be anything but a minority interest in Australia.

That’s not great business sense then.
Appeasing a nation of 5 million when an easy rescheduling of the game to a couple of hours later could expose it to 26 million more viewers.
I understand there are way more Union fans in NZ but the game will continue to flounder here with decisions like this. There’s a potential goldmine but they’re not smart enough.

Nobody would have seen it or gave a ■■■■… but a very competitive Wallabies performance at Eden Park.
I’ve only seen bits and pieces due to the GF but a few comments that the refs were never going to allow anything but an All Blacks win at Eden Park… can’t comment on that in this particular game but sounds about right.
Result was never in doubt, we are building nicely but when push comes to shove we just aren’t at that level yet

But we do make it hard for ourselves.
Our fly half misses touch again from a hard won pen, and kicks out from a restart .. go figure.
Pity we lost McDermott early. And that italian ref was never going to do us any favours.
Anyways, if we could just start a Test well rather than always come from behind and cut out these unforced errors, we might well get our rewards.

“push comes to shove” is a very pertinent comment when it concerns rugby, particularly Union. It seems to separate the levels of teams.
Noah Lolesio is very good, probably the preferred but he’s had back surgery and not sure when he returns. Tom Lynagh is developing and brave but needs consistency in his kicking still. Also gets clobbered a lot by oppo flankers. Tane Edmed also young but will need time. O’Connor plays his club rugby over in the UK now but is fine when on and decides to play a safer kicking game. And then Ben Donaldson, the perennial Wallabies backup. Bernard Foley, the Ice man is still about but getting on and not sure Schmidt would recall him nowadays.
Be interesting what half back selections new boss Les Kiss makes when he takes over next year.

This was one of our best opportunities in years, and we blew it.
So many instances of brain-dead defence.
Still a ways to go for this Wallabies group..
Missed pass here, when we had the ABs pedalling backwards, bad tackle there (yellow card), lineout went backwards this match and just a lack of composure and game management. You felt the ABs always had the game and skill to press the button when needed .. and they did. Good variation as well with Barrett pulling the strings.
Anyway a huge well done to Slips btw. 151 Tests over 15 years .. what a absolute warrior he’s been for us.
Next stop Japan and then on up to the NH and Twickers in a month to start their Autumn International tour of duty.
Back to back away wins against the old enemy?

I think defensively that was one of the better games from the ABs. Wallabies are so exciting. Just lacking depth.
