Weā€™ve won 1 game from our last 5 games and you think we can win 4 more.

Iā€™m fairly sure they finish their season off in Queensland after the games already scheduled.

We legit might not score against Richmond.

We are going to smooooooothly transition from ā€œa game in handā€ to ā€œone sneaky extra gameā€, and no one is going to notice.

Yep, couldnā€™t do that again.

Donā€™t want us anywhere near 7th/8th.

AFL will love it

Dees v Essendon will be almost a elimiation final before the finals.

Wouldnā€™t that be sad? Maybe there will be some good to come out of 2020, after all.

Come on AFL bring us the ā€œWILDCARDā€ round we all wanna see

As I and others have said.
The consequence of overrating the list has meant that we have floated between 8th and 14th for years.
Sides like Brisbane and Port have read the tea leaves, bottomed out, and now we see the talent they have coming through.

As a supporter, I have no problem with this, because the system is designed that way.
Add the saga penalties, and weā€™ve had that as an additional anchor around our leg.

Again, branding, membership, egoā€¦all a factor in the decision to not accept that short term strategy.

I really hope that after the next loss, we absolutely use the rest of 2020 to bottom out,try everyone on the list, and work ā€˜the systemā€™ to our advantage for once.

Looking back at results after 17 rounds since weā€™ve had an 18 team comp, 9.5 wins would be enough to play finals in 4 of the 8 seasons.

Of the other 4 years, once you needed 11 wins, once 10 wins and percentage, and twice 10 wins was enough.

Noteworthy that those seasons were compromised with the draws, not every team had played each other at that stage, so itā€™s not a perfect assessment. It also depends on the relative performance spread of teams.

The future is in our hands.

Fun fact: If you want to talk extremes, it is possible, for a 17 round season, if you had 9 really strong teams, a team could win 13 games and miss playing finals.(1)

Alternatively, at the other extreme it would be possible to play finals winning only 5 games. (2)

(1) Top 9 teams win all games against bottom 9 teams and 50% of games against the other teams. Positions 1-9 all have 13 wins, and 9th misses on %.

(2) Top 7 teams win all games against bottom 11 teams. Bottom 11 teams win half the games played amongst each. 8th to 18th all have 5 wins, best percentage plays finals.

(For a 22 round session, it becomes possible to win 18 games and finish 9th, or win 7.5 games and play finals.)

A season doesnā€™t run really well for any club with a lot of key injuries.

Some exceptions sure, but not the rule.

We need some footy god luck with our best on paper side.

There is a reason Port, Geelong, WestCoast are flying and others arenā€™t.

Port finished 10th in 2019, 10th in 2018 and 5th in 2017.

Itā€™s dĆ©jĆ  vu every year.

Weā€™ll finish 8th again, and play Richmond or Geelongā€¦ and get a lesson in football. A lesson which we never learn (funny considering our game plan is ā€˜learningā€™)

There is no point making the finals. We all know what will happen.

This will pain everyone here to read. Essendon Legend and board member Simon Madden thinks essendons finals and premiership window is open.

haha aye

Honestly, what do you expect him to say?

ā€œNah, weā€™re a bit ā– ā– ā– ā– , may as well give up for the seasonā€?

The worst thing in the world for a player would be to turn on the radio and hear a club legend and board member say we are cooked.

Yes, then they can prove him wrong.

I expected him to say everything he did say in the article. Some here would suggest thats why we are accepting medicority.

This shows why we are farked. We have a Board member who thinks we are still in it. Time for complete clean out and bring some real people, real cases Judge Judy style.
