Be interesting to know if Russian fortifications are centred on the obvious assault points should UKr be aiming to break through in the Dnipro / Zaphorizia region.
And it may also have inundated Russian defensive positions, supply routes and pinned troops in the Kherson district .

I am aware that a small crack in a dam can develop into a full blown disaster, but l have no doubt that this was an intentional demolition, planned and carried out by RU.
Actually, just looking at the Dneiper overall system, there are other dams upstream at Zaporizhzhia and Dnipro City. Whether they can be used to restrict flow to the Kahkovka dam , or also risk being overloaded, will be interesting.
The nuclear plant is currently in cold shutdown but relies on water supplies from the just-destroyed reservoir.
The structural safety factors in dam design are so huge, hard to see how this could occur just from high water levels. There should be spillways as well, designed to allow peak design height to pass. Can’t recall any signs of cracks or other failure being reported prior.
Also, it looks as if 2 sections were blown. That can’t be accidental.

On a much lesser scale I witnessed this in Taipei last year as the CCP were firing missiles over the top. They can demonstrate their brute strength but they lost the battle for hearts and minds very early on.

Agree. If normal structural damage it would have been leaking, and getting worse, for weeks, months or years. That looks like it’s been destroyed in one go.
