Late-night information: the Mirage 2000-5F was the first western fighter aircraft to destroy a Russian S8000 Banderol cruise missile with the cannon. In 2025, France took Mirage 2000-5F from its Air Force’s stocks and transferred them to Kyiv.

The closed-door meeting with Putin was attended by Russia’s top businesspeople, most of whom are under Western sanctions. The full list of participants was not made public. Putin said in September that “hundreds of billions” of roubles had been donated following the meeting.”…

Russia says European arms factories supplying Ukraine are potential military targets for Moscow
“MOSCOW, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Factories in Europe producing arms for Ukraine are legitimate and potential military targets for Russia, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.
Zakharova told a press briefing that European countries were directly involved in the conflict through their military support for Ukraine, adding that such activity delayed a resolution to the war.”…

Ukraine war ‘a human rights catastrophe’ that must end, says Türk
“The war in Ukraine is a human rights catastrophe that is “growing and intensifying by the week” and threatening an even greater disaster across the region, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said on Friday.
Addressing the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Mr. Türk said his office had verified some 15,280 civilians killed and injured in Ukraine during the first eight months of this year – on average more than 400 every week, and 55 per cent more than in the same period in 2025.
“The full-scale invasion unleashed by the Russian Federation is killing and injuring hundreds of people every week, as frontlines barely move,” he said, noting that apartment buildings, schools, medical centres, railways and shops had been hit in recent attacks.”…

Kyiv faces 300 to 500 attacks daily as Russia tries to force residents out — Zelenskyy
“Russia is seeking to force Kyiv residents to leave the capital, a goal it has pursued since the start of the full-scale invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told El País on Oct. 2.
“They want Ukrainians, especially those in the capital, to leave the city. In fact, that is exactly what they wanted when the full-scale invasion began,” he said.
Zelenskyy said Russia wants to force people to leave Kyiv and “show that if you don’t have a capital, you don’t have a country.””…

I listen to Ukraine: The Latest every day (except they don’t do Sat/Sun Aussie time). It always provides a great update on what’s happening in the battlefield and also political machinations in the background. They usually have a special guest too, could be regarding medical facilities, stolen children, mental health, Russian sexual assault, partisan activities, etc. Great to see it being shared in here, even though it can be quite depressing.
Same here, I listen most days. Depressing but insightful. They seem quite knowledgeable and the guests can be really informative. It’s been somewhat uplifting of late with the slight uptick of Ukrainian success.
Their capacity to continually shoot themselves in the foot has to be admired. ![]()
The Greens don’t support military aid but will support humanitarian aid. They also condemn Russia on their actions. So if Australia sends $1b to Ukraine for hospitals, repairing infrastructure and general welfare surely that helps the country. It’s not all black and white as Murdoch would paint it.
The Greens also think the UN will step in and do something. Talk about delusion.
No one seriously thinks the UN will do anything. That’s just a gravy train.
The UN can’t do anything whilst Russia has veto power.
One of the major weaknesses of that organisation.
It may not be all black and white but Ukraine has requested military assistance from Australia.
I am not aware of any major protests from the general public with regard to Australia providing such assistance.
Once again, The Greens are shooting themselves in the foot…taking a stand in an area where people (like me…a left leaning voter who has voted Green on numerous occasions) would not expect them to do so.
I would much prefer them to concentrate on getting the government to do more to prevent climate change, increase the uptake of renewables, stop approvals of new coal mines etc…you know, their bread and butter stuff.
