Ryan Crowley Tested Positive

#AFL says Crowley allowed to keep playing-& could play now-because he took "specified substance" as per rules in the anti-doping code

— Sam Edmund (@SammyHeraldSun) March 16, 2015

Wait… what!?

So is Patrick Smith going to create an article calling for Lyons sacking?

Ha.

Well. That’s interesting. Did Demetriou leave prior to Round 17?

I mean, I know he didn’t inject Crowley… but its starting to look a lot like a whole lot of people were injecting with his knowledge while he was in charge.

And he did zip to stop it.

Like letting someone drive knowing they were drunk. Dangerous and irresponsible.

Actually, it's a pity it's a Freo player.

They’re about the only club who haven’t felt the need (publicly, at least) to give a running commentary on our situation.

As for Crowley, let’s see how the “communication specialists” go at him.

Have the communication specialists really gone hard at our players, individually? Jobe is probably the only one with all the brownlow talk, but the media went hard at our club and our coach, not really at the players themselves.

"Crowley kept playing until the end of the season and accepted a provisional suspension, which started in September last year.

The testing of Crowley’s ‘B’ sample was the reason for the delay in issuing the infraction. Crowley himself wasn’t formally notified he had tested positive until September, after the Dockers’ season had ended at the hands of Port Adelaide."

How long does it take to test a B sample? I mean seriously?

This info is now updated:

"According to a timeline released by the AFL, that sample wasn’t tested until August 11. Crowley was notified of a positive ‘A’ sample result for a ‘specified’ substance on August 18.

His ‘B’ sample was tested on September 11 and he received a show-cause notice on September 18 - five days after Fremantle’s last game of the 2014 season.

Under the AFL Anti-Doping Code, a player who tests positive to a specified substance may, if they choose, continue to play and train as normal until the result of an Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Crowley kept playing until the end of the season and accepted a provisional suspension, which started on September 25 last year.

The testing of Crowley’s ‘B’ sample was the reason for the delay in issuing the infraction. Crowley himself wasn’t formally notified he had tested positive until September, after the Dockers’ season had ended at the hands of Port Adelaide."

So he failed a drug test, was not notified and was allowed to play on. They sat on it for a month, then tested the B sample once Fremantle was knocked out of the finals series before confirming it. That really is abominable. Anyone want to place bets on how quickly this one is dealt with?

Dickie Ings on Twitter bemoaning the fact that Crowley, after having an A and a B sample return positives some 6 months ago, and playing 8 matches after he gave that sample, is being (and I quote) “tarred and feathered”.
And calling on the media to speak with “caution”.

He is a total bell end, I don’t know how people can’t see this.

The Herald Sun went pretty damned hard when they "named and shamed" 14 current and former Essendon players.

Notwithstanding that in the same article, Mark Robinson shed crocodile tears for the players whose pictures were plastered all over the paper. Named them and then called them victims.

Making websites talk, drugs in sport, match fixing and calling tennis balls in or out. RT’s not endorsement. Comments my own.

His hypocrisy is just farking astounding.

It will be interesting to see if the penalty is different from Saad’s. Both test positive and admit guilt yet Saad self administers a match day banned substance, while Crawley allegedly takes a banned substance administered by his GP. On face value Crawley’s indiscretion would appear to be the more serious, but there may be factors that come to light such as the GP’s testimony. But at the end of the day it is staggering though that this could still happen with the ASADA case against the 34 players still at the forefront of the AFL’s negative publicity. The timing of this could even have ramifications for the penalties handed down to the 34 players after March 31.

I wonder if Crawley’s side leaked this to force the AFL to get on with it — i.e. “clear me or end my career… if you don’t, I’ll just play from round 1 regardless, I’m not going to be forcible retired to make you look good”.

James Hird’s influence knows no bounds.

Is there a Footy Classified/Confidential tonight to discuss this breaking scandal, and to preview the NAB Challenge grand final?

Luke Darcy is a lock.

Gotta question why a player didn’t go through the clubs own doctor for painkillers. Particularly after our saga.

Only answers I can come up with:

  1. He’s monumentally stupid.
  2. He knew what he was doing and hoped he wouldn’t get caught or have the coach find out he was injured.

No AFL leaks here

but if it’s Essendon must leak the information to ■■■■■ face and the purple ■■■

Hypocrites

Wow!
Just…
Wow!

One question…
Appologies as I haven’t read enough about this…
Was the pain killer injected by a club doctor before a game?

Phil Matera must taken too many hits to the head.

Reckons only Essendon leaked during entire saga.

uh huh.

Totally devastated by this news…

There aren’t any freo supporters at work.

I think we can all be sure that whatever the AFL and Fremantle say happened, is not what really happened…
