Obviously I’ve already been largely taking a break from the AFL in recent years – I hate them personally, I hate how the game is covered, I hate the continual changing of the game and umpiring, I hate what little I see of the prevailing modern game style. Only 40 years of EFC habit and anger against the AFL has kept me going, given how much the team sucks and with 2020 indicating there is little prospect of the team getting smarter or better coached.
I likely wouldn’t have come to this point if I was venting at the ground (healthy) rather than venting at the broadcast (unhealthy), and the “lesser” leagues were happening… but that wouldn’t make the ■■■■ parts any less ■■■■.
Babysitting an increasingly negative Blitz is markedly less “compensated” given the above.
I have no idea what I’ll do with the extra time (I can’t say I’ve made good use of this year’s extra time, except that I now have an excellent digitisation of most of our good games over and just beyond my time barracking for the Bombers).
Now we wait to see how thoroughly the AFL/EFC will jettison the VFL/VFLW/me in 2021…

Although we will miss you, the sooner you are gone, the sooner you will be back… and l know you will be back. I will still be here, as l have no other life, and l outlined last week. Looking forward to seeing you again at another Blitz bbq.

I can relate to this on a deeply personal level. Except for the bit about being a mod. Or the general stress that must come from residing in Victoria currently. Or about not being able to attend games. Or going to the VFL. Or any of the strange boomerang stuff. Also I prefer wedges*. Don’t mind Doctor Who, but it’s jumped the shark.
What I can say is that it’s saddening in the extreme to see one of the most articulate, reasonable, inclusive, hard-working and witty posters feel like they need to depart the scene. But I really do get it.
I’m hoping for a sneaky @Pimpinio_Tigers type operator to return after we go 5 - zip to the start of the season. In 2028

I reckon what makes supporters even more disillusioned is when reports come out in media hype about three Melbourne clubs chasing Saad. The club remains completely quiet makes no noise whatever. Sure I realise all players should check their worth by testing the market place.
The club on the other hand, could lose more good players, if we do we are destined to be bottom scrubbers for sometime to come, while we are forced to rebuild. Not rebuild because we looked at the list and said we need to do this, this, and this. There’s the big difference in choosing to do something rather than being forced to do it. The club says nothing, does nothing, its like they are in limbo unable to move or enact good decision making processes. In the meanwhile, the people who have remained faithful to this club through rain, hail and high water, get more disillusioned. And you have people like Woosha playing hit and run with words or the lack of them.
Friend of mine rang me recently, extremely upset, angry and frustrated. Essendon supporter his whole life. I have to take some responsibility for that as I used to take him to the footy as a little kid and indoctrinated him into “the dons.” I said to him you need to separate yourself from this club and AFL for awhile and take a break, if it affects you like this that is not good thing. Get help. You need to do this for yourself. Stop watching them or reading about them and talk about them. There are other important things in the world get involved in and become engaged with. This club can feel like an ex lover, who leads you around by the nose, fills you with false hope and then when an better offer comes along, dices you for someone else. When its finished back, they come again because they live or be can’t be without you.
