Hmmmm, I think stringer and petracca are a better comparison.
We don’t have a forward to compare to Fritsch, McDonald or brown. And for so long as tippa is out we don’t have a small forward as good as pickett either.
Parish and Merrett a very different players to Oliver and Viney, smarter and more polished. Viney and Oliver are both brutes. Caldwell is probably closer in style from what I’ve seen.
Oh and none of our wing options have the runs on the board that Langdon and Brayshaw do
I expect Geelong to defend well, and they have 2-3 good forwards, but our midfield should wipe them off the park, before Dangerfield and Selwood wake up whats happening.
all this talk of we are definitely top 6 worries me. i think we’re a good chance to do that but lets not forget we only beat one top 8 side last year, and got trounced in a final, again
i just hope the players dont start buying into their own hype. we are a team who have achieved nothing.
I don’t think Dangerfield has been at his peak performance level for the last couple of years. He’s still very good, but not the unstoppable force he used to be. Selwood must eventually drop off you’d think, but he’s been pretty consistent in the last few years.
I think it’s quite clear that they haven’t done/aren’t doing that.
We were pretty competitive in that final against an eventual Grand Finalist for ~3qtrs before the dam wall burst. Improvement might see us still make and lose a final but least push it deeper.
Improvement isn’t linear, but all signs point to improvement again and I expect we’ll be there abouts for a top ~6-8 spot in the run home to finals. We’ve got a very good fixture to start the season. Some tough matches no doubt, but 8 straight in Melbourne really is a bit of a dream start to set up the back half of the season and something that many on here have lamented not getting in years previous.
I was pretty encouraged with the game plan and the buy in last year. I even saw Heppell kicking short to players last year instead of bombing long to an opposition player. That’s something I didn’t expect to see.
If Hurley gets a game this year, and kicks to an Essendon player, I’ll know everything has changed.
