Season 2024 - Fremantle

Sounds like family hasn’t been informed yet, but it certainly sounds like the info is correct.

The West Oz has named the player. Very sad.

As it is now in the paper:

Far out thats shocking, i remember him being talked up as one of the next big key forwards

This club has had to deal with, or been associated with, an unbelievable amount of tragedy for such a young club. A disproportionate amount of young men losing their lives.

Col Sylvia, Harley Balic, Gary Dhurrkay, Shane Yarran and now Cam McCarthy.

I remember him more as a GWS player. Terribly sad.

Voss is back IN this week. Hope he smashes some bin chicken into next week.

Apparently really struggled after leaving the AFL. Really need to set up more support for people.

Rest in Peace Cam.

I new of Sylvia and Balic, didn’t realise Dhurrkay and Yarran too and now McCarthy.
Dhurrkay was one of my Freo favorites during his time along with Chisolm, Peter Mann and Winston Abraham.

Cam always strggled with his mental health, RIP to him.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Could certainly play, too.

Really tough for Freo having to play tonight given a lot of his former team mates would no doubt be grieving.

That doesn’t seem right that one club can have this happen that many times over a short period of time.
It is incredibly sad but there has to be someone look at it and find out what’s going on to have this happen and how can they prevent it and support players better

■■■■ McCarthy thats heartbreaking.

A few came from other clubs and it was well known they had demons.

I think Freo just happens to be a coincidental link here.

But I do agree that the AFL needs to be doing as much as it can in the mental health space and care for past players, though.

So so sad RIP Cam.

Blitz, if anyone ever needs a chat, my PM’s are always open. If you’re struggling you are not alone

Not just in the mental health space but I think the AFL does an overall sub standard job when it comes to former player welfare, BUT ESPECIALLY mental health

It’s unfortunate that they got his clubs arse-about. He went from GWS to Fremantle.

I know someone who works in that space and that is untrue. They do as much as people will let them.

HS going with “forgotten player”. Maybe it’s just me, but that feels disrespectful.
