Unfortunately… This is the way.

Some good young talent you didn’t mention. Then there is some good trades and MSD picks.

Since the mid season draft was reintroduced in 2020, Jai Newcombe and James Blanck are the only players to have played 20 or more games.

Here’s their draft/trade history going back to 1981.

If people want to say they’ve done well, then good on them…I don’t see it myself…not in terms of knocking it out of the park.

I doubt they’ve done any better than any other club to be honest.

When they start being expected to win they’ll start losing.

My God. I hate Hawthorn with a passion but I feel a lot for this guy.

He was looking like a genuine A Grader a couple of years ago but his career has been significantly disrupted from that point onwards.

His complete inability to get on the park will have some strong ramifications for their future planning now I’d say. Beginning with this trade/FA and draft period.

I havent watched this ■■■■ stain club for years because they bore me. I actually have no idea who Lewis is. But i believe he’s an ok player. Good luck with Ginny, Wizard, Breaust there it is and old man Gunston. ■■■■ them

He had one of the best goals per game averages last year from memory.
Terrible luck.

Calsher Dear now becomes important for the next 12 month period.
Perhaps they get Gunston to go around for 1 more ?

Idk but i like listening to Sam Mitchell think he’ll end up becoming a very good coach imo.

Wash your mouth out.

I think they will succed under Sam unfortanley

They’ve bounced up the ladder too quickly. They’ll get stuck in the Essendon zone of mediocrity. Not good enough to win and too good to hit up the top end of the draft.

It depends, Hawks have more cash than us to spend, but can they get any decent free agents in this year? otherwise they may be bringing forward contracts and paying sub standard players inflated wages.

Looking at the free agents - Cam Zurharr would actually fit in nicely for them an ageing bruest, wingard & Gunston, plus the Lewis ACL having someone younger who can play up forward would be beneficial.
They have also been heavily linked to Josh Battle and he would strengthen their defence somewhat, but they have stood up ok with just battlers this year. And Blanck to return next year.
Also Cumming or Perryman would definetly handy but not sure Hawks would be the top of their list so would need to be lots of $$$$ to sway them.

If they miss targets and need to spend cash then, would enquire on Cunningham from swans, he’s older, but versatile a bit of a swiss army knife and would add some much needed depth to the squad, also weakens the chickens and would boost his salary.

What’s Luke McCabe’s future? He has an injury this year, but is he a KPF or what?

Last year, Hawthorn could only sign castoffs and no-one really wanted to go there, but I’d say that’s changed and they might attract a good FA.

Probably a bit long in the tooth now at the age of 47. Super rules perhaps?

What about his son then?

Josh Ward should be looking out
