Had no idea he was 29 this coming Jan. you’re right, not what we need. If he was 23 and not coming off a serious injury it would be different
No way McKay goes to Demons…but McKay to Essendon with ability to play with his brother and support Caddy might be enticing.
Then we flick Wright + surplus mid to Dees.
Does Petracca to us make sense given we already have Stringer, Langford and Perkins as medium forwards, plus perkins age and injury risk.
cats could offer up 2 firsts + player but would be late firsts.
would be good fit to top up their aging lsit for another crack at it while they have Danger and Cameron
They also might find it difficult given they have to get Bailey Smith in.
But I have no doubt they will try.
Surely this is bringing the game into disrepute, take their draft picks
I kind of get it from a nobody is bigger than the club perspective. Essendon fans did the same when Saad/Daniher/Fantasia left. But Petracca is as professional as any AFL footballer can be from what I’ve seen.
If he’s saying “nahh, this joint stinks, I’m out”, surely some of them go “oh, actually, maybe these cultural problems are bigger than we thought”.
Paddy Ryder says hi.
Just quietly, I think there may have been a few cultural problems at Essendon when Ryder left too.
And they will succeed and stay in contention for another 5 years
Working with people that are deeply rooted in the club (Melb) there has been a real fear this injury and the way the club handled it had the potential to end his career from both a mental and physical perspective.
I know docs etc are exceptional at all football clubs but the lack of awareness putting a bloke back on the field in total agony, a player who runs through brick walls without flinching is an absolute farce. Not enough has been made of this.
This anger is not only player based but involves his family and many others. If I were the dees I would give him every opportunity to seek a trade IF he feels this will help his recovery (mentally).
We’re not talking about a club with a shining health record.
The doctor raises concerns at sending out players, coach gets stuck into him. Doctor goes, blows whistle on AFL’s ridiculous 3 strikes methods in Parliament.
Re-elected president raises concerns at drug use, shunned by AFL hierarchy, turfed.
The message at MFC seems pretty clear- get the players on the park and ignore the rest or lose your job. Not an ideal climate for medical decisions.
The biggest issue is, it’s not like they put him out there after giving him a pain killer, saw he was completely ■■■■■■ and 2-3 mins later got him off the field and sent him straight to hospital. He was on the ground for 21 straight minutes in that condition. Every time he went near the footy he was wincing in pain. He looked as white as a ghost. Everyone could see he was in no fit state to be out there. Even Pies players told him he should be off the field.
And the even more ■■■■■■ thing is, he was out there for the warm-up before the 2nd half resumed, and then of his own volition he decided he couldn’t continue. How did it even get to that point? I can understand his feeling of unrest with MFC in just that alone, never mind any other cultural issues at the club.
Oh but the Dees and AFL said it was all good so it must of been.
How long until Cornes calls him soft?
Nice to see Teflon finally dry up. Pickett now also wants to move back to SA. Between this ■■■■ and Pert they’ve completely butchered this club.
They’ll probably end up with half a dozen first rounders for those guys and be back in contention in 4 years while we’ll still be 10th.
I wouldnt be so sure they fluked their way to a flag imo
How? What unfair advantage did they have that other teams didn’t?
You don’t fluke a flag. That was a ■■■■ hot team and they were very worthy premiers.
Maybe not fluked but they did pinch one
Yeah nah.
